Niss94 300 skaters from Japan to NY showed up In 1994. NISS and competitive rollerblading would never be the same. Come celebrate the the birth of a sport

1994 two childhood friends Rick Stark and Mark Billik who knew little about rollerblading but lots about promoting. Came up with an idea. Let's find the best skaters on the planet and have them compete for a national title. They pitched Taco Bell the idea and Taco Bell said yes. With a check for $150,000 in their hand they found Aaron Spohn who built the sickest street course and portable half pip

e ever seen. Without social media or even cell phones that fit in your pocket over 300 skaters from Japan to NY showed up to Long Beach Ca. Come celebrate the the birth of a sport!

I wanted to share this with anyone who was there (NISS Qualifer at LBC Belmont Shores) back in the summer of 1994.

Finally our sport is 20 yrs old and out of that awkward teenage phase. Now you see alot of grey hair and lingering offspring. Thanks to all you 1994 heads that came out to celebrate, along with NISS participators, innovators, spectators and friends. "It's been real".

Thanks to Tony Donaldson and B-Love Hardin for the photobooth.
