"When people know that a movie’s shooting in L.A., that is their first choice,” said producer on the Imagine Entertainment side of things, Allan Mandelbaum. “They can come home at night, see their families and everything. Why not? I think we’re really punching above our weight in this movie, because the crew is as good as it gets.”

NewFilmmakers Los Angeles and Nalip Org are excited to collaborate once again with STARZ for the fifth season of the STARZ Writers’ Intensive—an empowering program aimed at nurturing new voices in television. This initiative provides emerging writers the opportunity to refine their skills and develop original spec scripts with hands-on guidance from top-tier mentors, executives, and experienced writers. This year, four writers will be selected to participate in both phases of the program.

In Phase 1, participants will connect with 15 industry professionals from a diverse range of TV backgrounds while crafting a spec episode treatment. In Phase 2, each writer will be paired with a mentor to write a full spec episode script based on an existing STARZ series. Each fellow will receive a $5,000 grant to support their participation in the program.

The program opens for submissions on August 18th, 2026 at 11:00am PT and the deadline to submit is September 15th, 2026 at 11:00am PT. Filmed in Los Angeles:

On Hulu/FX, “The Shards” recreates the look and feel of 1981 Southern California. Set in the Bel-Air, Sherman Oaks and Beverly Hills areas, production kept locations authentic. Specific locations include Pacific Coast Highway and South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach, Occidental College in Sherman Oaks, and Fox Westwood Village Theater. The series also received the California Film & TV Tax Credit.

Independent superhero movie “Legend of the White Dragon” is now in theaters. Filming began in 2021, including production near the then-under-construction Sixth Street Bridge. Other LA locations include a Bel-Air villa, a Hollywood Hills apartment complex, and Highland Park. Multiple production facilities were also used, including CinePack Studios, Independence Studios, and Willow Studios.
