[ADVISORY] FALSE INFORMATION ON DUAL CITIZENSHIP CIRCULATING AGAIN

The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC is aware of another viral video falsely claiming that the U.S. government has announced a crackdown on dual citizens starting October 2025. This is not true.

As stated in our previous advisory (https://tinyurl.com/424r5svx), the U.S. government has not implemented any policy changes regarding dual citizenship. The United States continues to recognize that individuals may hold citizenship in more than one country. There is no new policy requiring dual citizens to renounce another nationality, nor is there a “crackdown” underway.

We urge the Filipino community to verify information through official government sources, avoid sharing unverified content, and report false information to the platform where it is published.

Please do not make legal decisions, such as renouncing your Philippine citizenship, based on social media content. Renunciation of Philippine citizenship is a serious, irreversible legal action.

For questions, please contact the Philippine Embassy or your nearest Philippine consulate.

'HE IS DOING A GOOD JOB'

Deputy Speaker and Antipolo 1st District Representative Ronnie Puno defended President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. amid talk of an impeachment complaint reportedly being pushed by Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga.

In an interview, Puno said Barzaga is free to pursue any political action he wishes, including filing an impeachment case, but insisted there is no legitimate basis to remove the President from office.

“Nobody's preventing him (Rep. Kiko Barzaga) from doing that... But I don't think he's going to get very much support,” Puno said.

The lawmaker stressed that he sees no wrongdoing or failure by Marcos that could justify impeachment.

“Kasi (kung) ako lang, wala akong makita kung anong pwedeng gamitin na ipa-impeach si President Marcos. Wala talaga, because I think, honestly, he's doing a good job,” Puno remarked.

He further praised the President for addressing important national concerns with focus and commitment.

“He is bringing up the correct issues and he is determined to find the solutions in the issues that he has raised. So ano i-impeach mo doon?” he added.
