I just heard word that LAPD shut down the LA Fort for lack of permits. This is very unfortunate news, and I hope they survive the long, expensive, and frustrating legal process of getting a permit. Walt and I endured the process, but to little effect. It took a year before we actually received the official permit, and because we were zoned as a restaurant, it was considerably easier to qualify. If anyone is interested in learning about what it takes to run live music shows legally, please feel free to email [email protected] and I will give as much advice as I can. I cannot, however, promise you will like what I have to say. I think that the more people understand the process and the legal restrictions, the more we can work toward simplifying the process so the music and art community in LA can flourish!
