ATTENTION ORGANIZED MOTORCYCLE RIDE LEADERS:
If your someone in your group has an accident while on your ride, any respectful group leader (organizer) should do the following:
1. Provide immediate response — The group stops safely (if possible). Road Captain or Sweep Rider handles scene management: call 911/emergency services first, secure the area, provide first aid if trained.
2. Stay with the injured rider until help arrives; do not move them unnecessarily (especially for suspected spinal injuries).
3. Document the scene (photos, witness info) for insurance/legal purposes, but prioritize safety and medical aid.
4. The club/group must assist with notifications (e.g., family, club officers), transport of bike if drivable, or support (visits, fundraising if serious).
5. If the rider is injured, 1-2 riders from the group should stay with him at the hospital until family has been notified and arrives there. Provide the family with details if requested. Also, leave your contact information for future questions.
6. If the rider is deceased, the organizer should (to the best of their ability) notify the next of kin in-person if possible. Even if law enforcement is going to do this, it's important for the family to speak with someone who was at the accident and can explain what happened. If the grieving family does not want to talk, leave your number for questions that may come up in the future.
IF YOU LACK THE ABILITY TO HANDLE THESE TASKS, YOU SHOULD NOT BE LEADING RIDES. ORGANIZING RIDES COMES WITH RESPONSIBILITIES. BIKERS HAVE A CODE IT'S CALLED RESPECT...HAVE RESPECT FOR THOSE ON YOUR RIDES.
