Creating Safe Spaces for Black Women is not a concept for me. It is infrastructure. It is education. It is a lived practice.
I curate experiences, frameworks, and communities where Black women can rest, lead, and build legacy without survival mode.
This is the work behind Safe Spaces for Black Women. This is the vision behind Alicia Nicole.
I cannot produce if my life does not mirror what safety looks like.
Join the Safe Spaces for Black Women® community to experience intentional safety, restoration, and elevation.

You cannot depend on others to provide safety for you.
Safety is not something to wait for, request, or hope someone else will offer. It begins with how you listen to yourself, how you honor your limits, and how willing you are to protect your own well-being.
Becoming your own safe space is not isolation. It is self-leadership.
This is the work beneath the work.
Save this if you are reclaiming your sense of safety.

I was reviewing my book, Safe Spaces for Black Women and saw this page. This is the last page of my book and it tells a story.
I spoke loud and proud about racism being a public health issue at the Health and Human Services Department. Let’s just say some feathers were ruffled. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Even with that, many gave me a standing ovation. What I do know is, I advocated for Black women that day with confidence.
I walked off that stage with my head held high and feeling good and comfortable with my husband making sure I felt soft and comfortable.
On that day, I was a safe and soft.
Love,
Alicia

Becoming my own safe space allowed me to see what it means to be a woman that protects what is important to her.
Myself
My Family
My Peace
The noise was not a thing when I protected myself. The loud became a non factor because I did not give it space.
This was not easy, but it was necessary for elevation.
Blessings.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us that “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”
Civic service does not only happen through legislation or public office. It also happens through care, protection, and the creation of spaces that allow people to remain well enough to lead, organize, and participate.
Safe Spaces for Black Women® is rooted in this understanding of service. In Los Angeles, Black women continue to shoulder the weight of racialized labor, health inequities, and professional harm while sustaining families, institutions, and movements. Creating spaces centered on safety, wellness, and community care is not a retreat. It is infrastructure.
On this day, we recognize that community care is civic labor. Wellness is a public good. And the work of sustaining Black women is essential to the social, cultural, and civic life of Los Angeles.

Choosing safety unapologetically is not dramatic. It is strategic.
This carousel outlines the first step in exit planning: clearly defining safety, accurately naming harm, and stopping the minimization that delays decisions.
Save this. You will need it.

Choosing safety unapologetically is not dramatic.
It is strategic.
This month, I am talking about exit plans.
Not impulsive ones.
Prepared ones.
In my book Safe Spaces for Black Women, I define safety as being free from harm.
Anywhere harm has been normalized is not where you stay.
If your body is constantly on edge,
if you are questioning your competence,
if you are shrinking to stay employed,
or staying because leaving feels financially risky,
that is not a personal failure.

That is information.
Step one: stop minimizing what you are experiencing.
Save this.
You will need it.
