One year ago last May, Angel Deradoorian brought down the house with an ecstatic and mischievous performance celebrating her killer 2025 record, Ready for Heaven, on the 2220 main stage.

This Saturday she returns to the theater for a solo set, preceding Wordless Music with Haley Fohr ft. Alan Sparhawk.

Don't miss it!

Tonight, Monday, May 25th - we’re thrilled to welcome + .g.finn’s duo, Throw It In The Sink, to at 2220 Arts.

gabby fluke-mogul and Lily Finnegan are both celebrated improvisers in their own right, but together they alchemize something special: a sound dedicated to the q***r punk rock and avant-jazz musicians past, present, and future. Their improvisations brim with life, exuberance, and defiance - the perfect emotional cocktail for our modern times.

The night opens with their duo, followed by a trio set where they will be joined by LA’s own Patrick Shiroishi.

Tickets on DICE and at the door.

This week at 2220.

Four programs of dynamic collective improvisation – duos, trios and large ensembles, with a particularly large and dynamic one this Tuesday to celebrate the centennial of Miles Davis's birthday!

Plus two film features from near and far – last year's Golden Leopard winner from Sho Miyake, and Harry Smith's underseen epic Mahagonny.

Until soon!

Two weeks from tonight, Saturday June 6th, 2220 hosts a night of immersive sonic envelopment, featuring Oakland-based multi-instrumentalist Marielle V Jakobsons, celebrating her latest release on Thrill Jockey, The Patterns Lost to Air.

Los Angeles accordionist and composer Walt McClements and the duo of Nicolas Maldonado & Susana Pineda join the lineup, while Noah Klein (of Living Earth) DJs throughout the night.

Marielle V Jakobsons has cultivated a signature voice molded by minimalist, ambient and spiritual traditions. Her recordings, from her early work with the Date Palms, to the ongoing work with Chuck Johnson in Saariselka, and most definitively with The Patterns Lost to Air, show Jakobsons to be an exceptionally skillful sound sculptor, a musician who knows the value of patience and control. An artist able to derive maximum impact from her chosen sound elements, the album's layout is shaped by three primary voices of violin, Fender Rhodes, and Moog Matriarch and was recorded in 2024 in the studio Jakobsons built in Oakland, California, its huge windows overlooking a backyard with olive and palm trees, nesting towhees and hummingbirds.

Walt McClements is an accordionist, multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Los Angeles. His solo compositions focus on processed accordion, creating patient and emotional meditations that nod to drone and ambient music.

Nicolas Maldonado & Susana Pineda create improvisational soundscapes influenced by nature's beauty. With vocals, saxophone, percussion, and electronics, they create immersive musical ecosystems. Their music explores imagined worlds and subtle rhythms, like bird songs in a forest.

This week at 2220, three acts in six parts.

First, we start off with two events marrying sound art & movement to often bewildering effects.

Meanwhile, two of our film series (Mezzanine and Lightstruck) take us well abroad to Lebanon and the Mongolian Taiga (the latter for 10 hours!), for very different cinematic experiences.

And this weekend, we welcome full houses for Discovery Zone & Cate Kennan on Friday, plus legendary voice artist Joan La Barbara with Shelley Burgon's Modern Currents Ensemble on the weekend.

Both weekend concerts are seated with limited capacity, so we recommend buying tickets soon!

The Afghan Cassette Archive is at 2220 Arts and Archives today! Tickets are still available on DICE and also at the door 2:30 pm.

There will be an interactive station where you can look at and listen to clips from the archive and purchase merch before the event begins. See you soon!
