Tickets for the Dinner with the Artists may be purchased at the auditorium while supplies last.

A lecture by Brent Stevens, the former executive director of 95.5 KHFM New Mexico’s listener-supported classical music station, precedes the concert at 2 PM also at Duane Smith Auditorium. After the concert enjoy our popular Dinner with the Artists event at Beef and Leaf in Los Alamos. Tickets for the Dinner with the Artists may be purchased at the auditorium while supplies last.

The evening's program is titled "Brahms, The Admirer" and shines a light on Brahms' deep admiration and reverence for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven. The program starts with an arrangement by Devin Moore that evokes the traditional layout of the Tridentine Mass. Interspersed with arrangements of choral works by Bach and Brahms that reinterpret this liturgical form, the program follows the skeletal structure of the Mass Ordinary - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. This is followed by a string quartet by Beethoven (B-flat major, Op. 18, No. 6). conclusion. With its expressive contrasts and structural ingenuity, Op. 18 No. 6 showcases Beethoven’s ability to honor the Classical form while injecting it with new emotional and formal complexity—a hallmark of his evolving style.

The second half is entirely comprised of a string quartet by Johannes Brahms himself (B-flat major, Op. 67). Composed during the summer of 1875, Brahms’s String Quartet No. 3 in B-flat Major, Op. 67, is a radiant and refined work that stands apart from the emotional weight of his earlier quartets.

The Los Alamos Concert Association is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization. One of our volunteer board members was recently spotlighted in Los Alamos National Laboratory's National Security Science magazine: https://ow.ly/xwSL50Y9rQy Jeff Favorite is a scientist who brings math, music, mascot costumes and a lot of laughter into local classrooms as a part-time substitute teacher. He also makes sure everything runs smoothly backstage at our concerts!
