Basically, records chosen by an actual human being with very good taste and a willingness to wander.

Our friend—and Lorain’s own—akaFayaven of aka & co. is doing something a little different at Speak of the Devil.

On Saturday, October 17, he’s stripping things back for a very special UNPLUGGED evening.

No big production. No wall of sound. Just the songs, the voice, the keys, and that little bit of magic that happens when you take everything else away and let the music do the heavy lifting.

If you’ve seen Fayaven with aka & co., you already know the talent. This is a chance to hear another side of it—up close, intimate, and in a room made for exactly this kind of thing.

Zoe Lemon, Sacred Canopy & pirl at Ship to Shore!

Zoe (rhymes with toe!) Lemon is a chamber alt pop project full of layered strings, warm vocals, and introspective songwriting. Her debut EP, Tailspin, was featured on WXPN, WKDU, and NPR. Last year, she released a second EP - A Coin in the Mouth of a Fish - a collection written during a season when she felt like she wasn’t measuring up to her own expectations. She shows up on tour with colorful merch & a la croix in hand!!

Sacred Canopy is the electronic ambient project of Matt Bahnsen. Matt utilizes synthesizers and loopers to create soundscapes inspired by lived experiences and films.

pirl crafts a blend of noise and ambience through the use of accordion, found sounds, voices from friends, q-chord, synthesizers, viola, and cassette tape sampling.

Thurs, September 24th. Music starts at 7:30. The cafe will be open all evening, serving full menu in between sets.

A $15 donation is suggested that goes directly to the artists performing. No one ever turned away for lack of funds.

Okay, so we had Cole Davidson in here last December and pretty much immediately decided, yeah, we need to do that again.

So…we’re doing that again.

Cole is back this Saturday night.

He’s one of those guys who shows up with an acoustic guitar and somehow, about three songs in, you realize, oh…this guy’s really damn good.

Really beautiful fingerstyle guitar, layered vocals, indie folk stuff with a little darkness around the edges — atmospheric without getting all precious about it.

And it just really, really worked in this room.

So we asked him back.

That’s pretty much the whole story.

Come grab a drink, find yourself a stool, and hear what we’re talking about.
