We lost a good one yesterday. Ole Al Dressen. Al’s last words to me and I’m sure many others, were “if I die, remember ‘Ol Al loves you.” I love you too Al. RIP. Missing you already. The Western Swing World won’t be the same without you. I know you’ll be singing in heaven.

While it was disappointing to cancel the festival, we sure did enjoy a little get together with some special folk this past weekend. In gearing up for the festival next fall, we will be excited to host a few live music sessions in Lockhart, Texas. So, grab your dance partner! Details on the next event coming.

Please mark your calendars and spread the word the Lockhart western swing and barbecue festival is playing all weekend long September 23 through September 25. this is a free event for the public playing smack dab in downtown Lockhart on the Square. It’s going to be a spectacular event for the live music lover, so bring your families and friends and come listen to some tunes and do a little dancing with us.

We are planning out our 2022 Festival now. It will be the weekend of September 23, 24, and 24, in downtown Lockhart, Texas. So far we have Bob Wills Texas Playboys under the direction of Jason Roberts, and Al Dressen's Super Swing R***e. We'll announce more shortly!

The 2021 Lockhart Western Swing and BBQ Festival and the 33rd Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame Show scheduled to take place on the weekend of September 23, 24, and 25 has been cancelled because of the continuing growth of Covid. We had a great show planned for you folks this year. But, Covid seems to be growing everyday, and we really care about the safety of all of you fans of BBQ and Western Swing, and your families. So, we made the hard decision of cancelling. Again, all of us, the folks putting on the festival, the City of Lockhart and the bands scheduled to perform believe this is the right and best thing to do in the interest of safety. We all look forward to seeing each of you in the future.

Texas Western Swing & BBQ Festival

The Texas Western Swing Festival started in Austin in 1988 to pay homage to the unique Texas-based musical genre known as Western Swing. The event founder is Western Swing bandleader, Al Dressen. After five years in Austin, Al moved the event to San Marcos where it was held for 25 years until Al discovered the love for Texas music and BBQ that Lockhart holds dear to its heart. In September of 2018 the event moved to Lockhart, the “Barbecue Capital of Texas”. Lockhart continues to host the event in 2019 and into the future, celebrating Texas Western Swing Music and Barbeque. As part of the celebration, musicians will be inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame at the Gathering and Hall of Fame Show on Friday evening.
