The Music: Polk County Pagan Market is the Southern Pagan folk project of Jason McLelland, blending ancestral storytelling, backwoods mysticism, and outlaw community spirit. Born in the pines of East Texas, McLelland creates music for the ones who never fit the church pew, who honor freedom, roots, and old ways whispered through the trees. The Festival:
The Polk County Pagan Market meets several times a year in Livingston Texas. In 2023 we will be gathering for Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh & Samhain. Each of these events are listed under the events tab and on Eventbrite. This is a free event networking Pagans, Wiccan's Witches and like-minded individuals while giving a safe space to come together, free from pressure or hate. We are always seeking unique vendors & entertainment to add to our growing group. To become a vendor, please use the appropriate form on our website. Vendor fee grants available for those in special circumstances. The Polk County Pagan Market is a fairly new event. A growing market that has met some pushback from Religious opposition in its beginning. On November 12th 2022 the first event was held in Livingston successfully. Nearly 500+ people came to visit with from all around, despite the small protests set up outside of the event by out of town Christian groups, such as a small group of non local protestors. Following this, the second event was held on Imbolc February 4th 2023, featuring 96 vendors and seen a 1500+ turnout. This is event is dedicated to the Pagan Community, Hosted in Livingston Texas, but networking Pagans all around the world. Please let others know, share with your friends and let everyone know!!

Well, witches are back in the news again.

Hung Cao, who has been nominated to serve as Secretary of the Navy, is getting attention over comments he made about Wiccans and witchcraft during his 2024 campaign in Virginia.

Cao talked about witchcraft taking over communities and said, “We can’t let that happen to Virginia.”

Those comments are coming back around now because of his nomination.

It’s 2026 and we still have people in some of the highest levels of government talking about Wiccans and witchcraft like this.

This is one of the reasons Pagan visibility still matters. There are a whole lot more of us out here than people realize.

Tropical Storm damage to our haunted woods. We got hit pretty hard last night. Must have had some strong winds because a lot of those poles and stuff have been standing for a few years.

3 weeks left before opening weekend, we are gonna double up and get everything back up and going.

National Geographic recently did a story on the revival of Pennsylvania Dutch folk magic known as Braucherei.

Braucherei has been practiced in Pennsylvania Dutch communities for hundreds of years, brought over through German-speaking immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania in the 1700s.

A lot of it was everyday folk magic. Healing people and livestock, protecting the home, removing warts, cooling burns, stopping bleeding, finding lost animals and bringing good luck around the farm.

They used prayers, spoken charms, laying on of hands, things found around the home and farm and even worked with the phases of the Moon.

There's even an old wart-removal practice involving a potato and the waxing Moon.

A lot of these people wouldn't have called themselves witches at all. Braucherei was often mixed right in with Christianity. Someone might pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit while doing something we'd probably call folk magic today.

Charms and practices were passed from one person to another and kept within families and communities. Now younger generations are taking an interest in it again. Some practitioners are even teaching online, while others believe certain parts of the tradition need to stay off TikTok and social media and continue being passed down the old way.

What did your grandparents or great-grandparents do that you later realized was basically folk magic?

Protection tricks, weather signs, planting by the Moon, ways to stop bleeding, things you weren't supposed to do in the house, old superstitions, ways to bring luck or keep bad luck away.

Our event this weekend will be moved to September 25 weekend due to storms. Which puts us close to Mabon anyways, so we can make it a Mabon celebration. We have had a lot of issues with these summer events so next year we plan to cut them down to Ostara, Beltane then Mabon and Samhain.

It's looking like we will have bad weather this weekend. Enough that will interrupt our scheduled event. That being said , we will just be moving it over to opening weekend at the Haunted Woods Sept 25 weekend.

I will do a video on it in a bit. Any vendors that can't reschedule can reach out for a refund by text 936-268-5829. Text, is the only way to reach us at the moment. We are working nights right now on haunted woods, so it may be a bit before I can get back to you.

Looks like it's time again for the yearly posts telling us Halloween is evil, costumes are devil worship and plastic skeletons open portals to Hell.

Let those kids have some fun, dress up and collect enough candy to last until Thanksgiving. Treat the spirits well, too. They only get one night a year when the veil is thin enough to cross, and some of them have been waiting a very long time.

So leave out an offering, light a candle and show the dead a little respect.

The hardcore Christians can keep warning everyone about opening doors. Pagans know better than to leave a spirit standing on the porch.

Especially when it remembers where you sleep.
