From Rock City Film Festival 2025, author, professor, screenwriter, producer, actor: Marty Lang knows the independent film business inside and out. In this very special keynote presentation, Marty will share his experience and insight on how independent filmmakers can develop and fund their projects through crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, and other means outside the traditional systems. He'll share some of the wisdom contained in his book, The Self-Sustaining Filmmaker, answer your burning questions about the entrepreneurial side of filmmaking - and he'll have copies of his book available for sale at the festival.

ABOUT MARTY:
Marty Lang is the director of the MFA in Film, Television & Digital Media at the University of Georgia. He has written and directed two feature films, the drama STAY WITH ME, released internationally by Freestyle Digital Media in 2025, and the romantic dramedy RISING STAR, distributed by FilmRISE. His producing credits include CHOMPY & THE GIRLS, featuring Udo Kier, the Sundance 2020 world premiere Web series THE RIDE, the 2016 Indie Spirit Award nominee OUT OF MY HAND, and BEING MICHAEL MADSEN, starring Michael Madsen, Virginia Madsen, David Carradine, and Lacey Chabert. His book THE SELF-SUSTAINING FILMMAKER, about crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, and community filmmaking, was the top film/TV book on Amazon the week of its release in June 2024. He has taught film at the University of Central Arkansas, the University of Memphis, and Quinnipiac University. He holds MFA degrees in film production from Florida State University and in screenwriting from California State University, Northridge.

The Rock City Film Festival | From Local to SAG: Arkansas Actors in the Industry | 2026

We’re bringing together Arkansas-based actors who have built their careers on major film and television productions. They will break down how they get auditions, prepare, and what happens once you step onto a professional set. You will hear honest insight on booking roles, handling rejection, and staying consistent in a competitive field.

Mary Faulkner Turriff grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mary’s acting career began with a role on Days of Our Lives. She went on to act on the primetime shows Melrose Place, Gilmore Girls, Mind of Mencia, Relativity, Providence, Judging Amy, and Once & Again. Film roles in Los Angeles include Slackers, The Falls, and Ladies Room. Upon moving back to the South, Mary’s film credits include The Brian Banks Story, Poor Mama’s Boy, Betrayed by My Bridesmaid, Discontentment of Ed Telfair, Patient Justice, God’s Not Dead 2, Justitia, Good Time Charley and The Birthday Bully, as well as several 48-hour films. Mary has also appeared in many commercials.

Raeden Greer is a filmmaker and actress known for her recurring role as Kathy Bates' daughter on American Horror Story: Coven, appearing on NCIS: New Orleans, and playing supporting roles in both independent and big-budget studio films, holding her own onscreen alongside heavyweight actors like Will Ferrell, Forest Whitaker, Abigail Breslin, and Stephen Dorff.

Barry Clifton began his journey in the performing arts by studying Musical Theatre at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith at the age of thirteen. In recent years, Barry has made notable appearances in both film and television, including God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness, Yellowstone, The Thing About Pam, General Hospital, Hellfire, and Sovereign. Clifton's most recent release is Taylor Sheridan's newest project, The Madison, with Michelle Pfeiffer et al.

Jason Scott Morgan is an Arkansas-based film and TV actor with a background in local theater. Jason’s on-screen credits include network television on Chicago P.D. and feature films alongside actors such as Harvey Keitel, Nick Offerman, Stephen Lang, Theo Rossi, and Michael Shannon. He appears in the upcoming "Cape Fear" on Apple TV, and has just wrapped filming on "King Snake", written and directed by ACS co-founder Jeff Nichols.

The Rock City Film Festival | Production Spotlight: New Harvest Creative with Dan Robinson | 2026

New Harvest Creative is an Arkansas production company focused on fostering local filmmakers and projects. With a combined 50 years of production experience, the NHC team helps filmmakers accomplish their goals with pragmatic approaches and proven methods. With award-winning short films, television pilots, mini-docs, commercials, documentaries, and a feature film under their belt, NHC works to provide opportunities for Arkansas-based creators to find their place in the growing Arkansas production ecosystem.

NHC Founding Partner Dan Robinson will share his perspective on the current state of indie filmmaking in Arkansas. He will discuss successful strategies for NHC and others, as well as pitfalls you can avoid.
