The Art Porter Music Education family is deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Marcus McDonald. His extraordinary talent, kindness, and generosity became central to our mission and our story. Marcus was such a blessing to our organization and has left a permanent mark on our community.

Marcus joined the APME family following an introduction by board member Pamela Smith. After working together for many years at KATV Channel 7, their professional relationship grew into a lifelong friendship. Pamela knew Marcus not only as an exceptional photojournalist, but as someone with an incredibly generous spirit, who deeply cared for his community. What began as a professional connection quickly grew into a meaningful, lasting relationship with our organization.

Earlier this year, during our For the Love of Art celebration at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, Pamela had the distinct honor of presenting Marcus with our “Supporter of the Arts” Award. We were truly grateful for that opportunity to tell Marcus, while surrounded by so many people who loved him, how much he meant to us.

Marcus served as APME’s dedicated videographer for several years. From the beginning, we knew we were blessed to have a professional of his caliber capturing our events. Having him document our week-long music festival was a gift in itself, but Marcus always went above and beyond, delivering fully edited, beautifully polished presentations with the same excellence that defined his career.

His advocacy didn't stop when the camera turned off; he constantly looked for opportunities at KATV to help us reach a wider audience - doing so quietly, generously, and without ever seeking recognition.

This spirit of generosity was deeply rooted in Marcus's faith and it was evident in his heart for service, the way he treated people, and how he used his talents to uplift others.

Eventually, life asked Marcus to draw on that faith in a different way. He faced his battle with cancer with the same grace, dignity, and conviction that guided his life, demonstrating immense courage and an unwavering trust in God. With the deep love of his family and a devoted village of friends, Marcus closed this earthly chapter and entered his Heavenly rest.

Thank you, Marcus, for allowing us to be a part of your remarkable journey. You will always be a cherished part of the Art Porter Music Education family.

With love, gratitude, and deep appreciation,
Art Porter Music Education Inc
