Parade Rules
1. The Linn Lions Christmas Parade has been an Osage County tradition since the 1980s. Any person, family, church,
school, or organization of a moral base may participate. This is not a commercial or political parade. However, commercial exhibits may enter the parade to represent their business in the local area. ONLY ONE SANTA CLAUS will appear in the parade, which will ride on the final fire engine at the end of the parade.
2. All exhibits and participants will demonstrate good taste and a wholesome appearance and attitude. Parade participants are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous manner. The final determination shall be made by the
Parade Chairman.
3. If there are participants that walk along with their float, they shall walk behind their respective float. This is a safety measure so the walking participants do not accidently become caught under the wheels of the float. Jumping on and off
the exhibit is prohibited once the parade starts.
4. Parade participants are strictly prohibited from participating in any form of political campaigning in conjunction with the Christmas Parade, including but not limited to the display of any political campaign signs, buttons, t-shirts and
literature. The final determination shall be made by the Parade Chairman.
5. Candy or flyers may be handed out. If candy is to be thrown from the exhibit, it must be thrown SAFELY and clear of the parade exhibit as not to encourage children to run into the street or parade route. Candy or handouts shall be tossed underhanded, toward the ground in front of parade viewers, or handed to viewers by walkers. Participants caught throwing candy or objects in the intent to harm any person or group, will be asked to exit the parade.
6. Participants riding in or on vehicles or trailers are the liability of the vehicle’s operator. Operators must provide their
own vehicles, to include insurance and liability. They are the sole responsibility of participants and owners’ vehicle.
7. Parade speed shall be a maximum of 5 mph. Proper spacing and parade pace is critical. Parade speed will maintain approximately four (4) feet per second. Maintain minimum spacing of approximately 6 car lengths.
8. If music is played, it shall not be heard over other exhibits or bands, and shall be in good taste.
9. All weapons and fireworks are prohibited. No alcohol or drugs will be used during the Christmas parade. Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited by drivers or participants.
10. An exhibit representative shall remain with their entry once it is in the lineup area.
11. For exhibits of the motorized type, the driver or engineer shall remain with it at all times while running for safety
reasons.
12. No motorized exhibit shall be operated by anyone under the age of 16 years.
13. Registration for entries is on site with a Lions Club member stationed on Lee Street. Registration is for identification in the local newspaper, and if an award is earned.
14. Line up is from 12:30 to 1:55 for the 2 p.m. parade start. Enter from 12th Street next to City Hall and circle around the City Park to Lee St. for line-up near the city pool. Vintage vehicles will line up on the north side of Hwy 50 beginning at the St George Cemetery entrance. Vehicles will be mixed in with other parade entries by the Chairman.
15. These rules are subject to change on short notice. Advance notice will be given if possible. Failure to comply with the parade rules will result in unit members or the entire unit’s (entry) removal from the parade (even if in progress).
