The Battle of Ramsour's Mill Living History Weekend is just around the corner June 20 and 21! Special guest speaker on Saturday at 12:30 is author Michael Hardy, who will be on hand with his 2026 release from The History Press, Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, and the American Revolution. This book traces the Revolutionary War as it affected the mountain regions.
Hardy is an award-winning and widely published author. He has written on a large array of subjects – airplanes, Southern places, and Confederate regiments—in books, articles, and blog posts.
In 2010, Hardy was named North Carolina Historian of the Year by the North Carolina Society of Historians. He was also awarded the James I. Robertson Literary Prize by the Robert E. Lee Civil War Library and Research Center in 2018 for his history of the Branch-Lane Brigade, General Lee’s Immortals (Savas Beatie, 2018).
Hardy has presented at a number of conferences like the Appomattox/Longwood Civil War Seminar, Pamplin Historical Park’s Symposium, and the American Battlefield Trust’s Annual Meeting, as well as being featured on an episode of Blood and Fury on the American Heroes Channel. When not researching, writing, and traveling, he volunteers at historic sites, sharing his love for history.

Yesterday was a quiet day, one where you work in the office, return calls, emails, etc. and work to reduce the "to do" list.

A little after 6 pm the building began to come to life, as she usually does, at first the tap of a few feet, then the giggles and laughter of children as they began to arrive for play practice, and within minutes the piano adds to the awakening as they begin their songs.

All the while the instruments begin to arrive via Guy for orchestra rehearsal in the performance hall and once that begins the heart of the center beats a little louder.

As I made my decent down the stairwell, I smiled as I was greeted by the lighthouse in the mural. That mural just makes me happy.

Making my way to the door, I hear the cordial chatter of the quilting group coming from the reception hall, their monthly meeting in which they share techniques of their heritage craft.

Lastly as I push open the door, I walk through the parents waiting for their children and talking with each other. I see the sense of community that surrounds the Lincoln Cultural Center and I am reminded that I am so very blessed to be a part of this great big beautiful place.
