Well, look who came to see me again today. 🐸💚
Oberon, my Greenhouse Guardian, made another appearance on the back porch.
I’ve decided he must be checking in on things around Old Crow Farm. After all, a good guardian can’t spend all his time in the greenhouse. 😂
I’ve always loved the old folklore surrounding toads. Finding one near your door is said to be a sign of good luck, prosperity, new beginnings, and protection for the home. Because of the transformation they undergo during their lives, they’re also associated with growth, renewal, and change.
Now, I don’t know how much stock I put in old superstitions, but I have to admit that I smile every time this little fellow shows up.
Today, Oberon had settled himself right in the middle of the welcome mat, and Scott nearly stepped on him before he saw him. So I reached down and gently picked him up.
And that sweet little fellow just settled into my hands and let me hold him.
For a minute, I stood there on the back porch with Oberon cupped in my hands, talking to him like he was an old friend. He didn’t struggle or try to get away. He just sat there while I carried him to a safer place and gently put him down.
I know he’s just a little toad who has decided my greenhouse and back porch are good places to hang around. But there was something unexpectedly tender about that little moment.
Maybe he was simply being still. Maybe he really does feel safe here. I like to think it’s the latter. ❤️
There are so many little things around this farm that make it feel like home—the garden, the greenhouse, the animals, the changing seasons, and apparently one very special little toad who keeps coming back to visit.
So, Oberon, you keep guarding the greenhouse, and I’ll keep looking out for you.
Especially when Scott comes through the back door. 😂🐸💚
