Hometown Heroes Hit the Ice in Lincoln
First responders face off in inaugural hockey game to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the First Responders Foundation Lincoln.
The Lincoln Firefighters Local 644 and the Lincoln Stars are teaming up to host the first-ever Hometown Heroes Hockey Game on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Ice Box. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. with puck drop at 2:05 p.m.
The event will feature first responders from Lincoln, Omaha, and surrounding communities battling against Siouxland’s bravest which will feature Sioux City area first responders in an action-packed, family-friendly hockey showdown.
This year’s game will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in honor of 6-year-old local ambassador, Isai Soriano, who was recently diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and the Lincoln chapter of the First Responders Foundation.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive condition that causes muscles to get weaker over time. It mainly affects the muscles used for movement, breathing and heart function.
It’s inherited and it typically affects males. Symptoms usually start in early childhood and slowly get worse. You might notice developmental delays, toe walking or muscle weakness in your child as they grow.
This disease affects about 1 in every 3,600 male infants. It’s the most common form of muscular dystrophy and the leading type of severe inherited muscle disorder.
While there’s no cure, and it will shorten life expectancy, treatments are available to slow its progression and help manage symptoms.
Family-Friendly Fun
• Fire apparatus, police cruiser, and StarCare helicopter tours
• Face painting, balloon animals, and kids’ Fun Zone
• Silent auctions, raffles, and vendor booths
• In-game competitions and recognition of local heroes
The Lincoln Stars will also open their concessions, creating a true game-day experience for fans.
“This event is about honoring our first responders and members of the military while also rallying behind Isai and families impacted by muscular dystrophy,” said organizer and Lincoln Firefighter Delano Lopez. “It’s going to be a day of community, hockey, and support.”
