TONIGHT at SCFA: Bringing together more than 60 alumni from the 1970s to current students, the UK Percussion Studio presents its Alumni Reunion Concert at 7PM in Concert Hall.

Tonight's concert highlights the percussion program’s reach and the community it has built over time. The event is also a tribute to Professor Emeritus James Campbell, who taught at the university and directed the percussion ensemble from 1985 to 2023.

More than 60 University of Kentucky percussion alumni from five decades will reunite May 16 for a free concert honoring the program’s legacy and longtime director James Campbell.

Our ears are still ringing from Tuesday's amazing performance by The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis! What a treat to catch this group in full stride on the heels of their recent release, "Deface the Currency." Thanks to photographer Brian Connors-Manke for capturing these fantastic images of the show.

Thanks also to Walter Tunis for his excellent concert review in his blog (linked in the comments):
"The [ear}plugs were accepted but not utilized. Not that the torrents of sound offered by The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis didn’t pack a level of electric gusto that could wake the neighbors. It was plenty loud, abrupt and immediate at times. But it also receded into subtler, but no less strident passages where grooves would simmer and boil while more lyrically modest guitar and bass melodies erupted into fascinating mayhem with little forewarning."
