We loved kicking off the festival with our Meet The Faculty event and hearing just a little bit about what brought these incredible artists to Bates Dance Festival.

Thank you to the extraordinary faculty for sharing your stories, artistry and wisdom with our young dancers. To everyone who joined, we hope these reflections continue to inspire curiosity, connection and bold creative explorations! For those who couldn’t join, swipe through to just get a taste of this one-of-a-kind lineup!

We can’t wait to see what unfolds in the studio these next few weeks!

Part lecture, part ritual, and entirely urgent: For All Your Life is Leslie Cuyjet’s deep dive into the mechanism of life insurance as a tool for examining Black life and death. Cuyjet deconstructs the industry’s origins in the transatlantic slave trade, transforming a business seminar into a visceral investigation of human worth. It is an invitation to witness how we react to loss and a provocation to see the “value” of a life through a lens beyond the economic.
