Carnegie Hall was built in 1902 with funds donated by steel baron and philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, to the former Lewisburg Female Institute, later the Greenbrier College for women. was established in 1983 as a regional not-for-profit arts and education center to serve Southern West Virginia. The historic, Greek-revival structure houses an auditorium, studios for painting, weaving, pottery and

dance; a museum; kitchen; administrative offices; and several other rooms for public and private meetings, classes, lectures, receptions and gatherings of all kinds. World renowned artists such as Isaac Stern, Wynton Marsalis, The Moscow Dramatic Ballet, Doc Watson, Kathy Mattea, Ralphs Stanley, Judy Collins and the West Virginia Symphony have performed on Carnegie Hall's stage. Carnegie Hall plays a crucial role in the educational, economic and cultural development of its region. Recognized nationally and locally as an outstanding arts organization, Carnegie Hall serves thousands of students, residents and tourists of the Greenbrier Valley each year.

✨Our First Friday Lecture Series returns next Friday, June 5, from 5 - 7 PM at the North House Museum!

Join us for an evening with Alderson quilter Mary Mitchell as she presents "Underground Quilts: A History of African American Quilting Traditions," exploring quilting traditions connected to the Underground Railroad, the cultural significance of handmade quilts, and the ways fabric and stitchwork preserve stories of faith, resilience, and survival across generations.

Admission is free and all are welcome! Light refreshments will be provided, and guests are also welcome to bring their own as we gather for an engaging evening of history, conversation and community.

Patriotism Through Poetry closes TOMORROW, May 29 — and we want your voice in the mix.

Carnegie Hall invites all students in grades 6–12 to submit an original poem (40 lines or fewer) for Patriotism Through Poetry, a statewide contest celebrating the people who make West Virginia shine.

Prompt: Describe a West Virginian in your life who truly embodies the American spirit — and how so.

💵 Cash prizes in BOTH divisions (Middle & High School):
- $250 for 1st place
- $100 for 2nd
- $50 for 3rd

🌟 Plus: First place winners will be invited to share their poem onstage at the America250 Ivy Terrace celebration on June 11, 2026 — a huge community event honoring creativity and civic pride.

Patriotism Through Poetry invites Greenbrier County students in grades 6–12 to submit an original, non‑AI poem of 40 lines or fewer celebrating a West Virginian who embodies the American spirit. Middle and High School divisions offer cash prizes of $250, $100, and $50, with first‑place winners invited to read at the America250 Ivy Terrace event on June 11, 2026.

The submission deadline has been extended to May 29 and poems must be submitted digitally via FormSite.
