I recently added several tools to the RunBuzz website.

Tell me what you think about the VDOT Calculator I added:

Steve here,

I recently retired and have had time to revive the website a bit. I am thinking about a YouTube show (Runbuzz Reloaded?)

Just wanted to share some success and new tips:

Increasing stride length (without introducing braking impact) has been a game changer in increasing race times for the Track/XC and adult athletes I coach. I have had several compete at regional, state, and national level plus several adults who took off massive time off their race times while otherwise following the same ‘training plan’.

Increasing stride length over time by one foot length multiplied by thousand+ steps that occur per race has decreased their race times significantly.

This was accomplished through introduction of plyometric training, strength training, and form drills (A-skips, etc) and ensuring weight distribution is under the hip.

Too many runners think running form is just for injury prevention. Unfortunately, the science isn’t really showing good running form as a fix for injuries. It may certainly be a factor, but good running form is a bigger factor with performance.

Don’t underestimate the power if running drills, wickets, and plyometric training.

More info coming soon!

I hope you have all been well.

Amazing! Congratulations!

The 2024 Barkley Marathons have ended. Jasmin Paris (UK) became the first woman in history to finish the Barkley Marathons. She finished in 59:58:21 with less than two minutes to spare. Also, for the first time in history, there were five finishers.

Congratulations also to Ihor Verys (UKR/CAN) 58:44:59, John Kelly (US) 59:15:38, Jared Campbell (US) 59:30:32, Greig Hamilton 59:38:42 (NZ). It was Jared's 4th Barkley finish and John’s 3rd finish. Damian Hall (UK) and Sebastien Raichon (FR) did not finish loop five and faced the bugler.

Curious… How do you build resilience and mental toughness during training? What do you feel moves the needle the most?

This weekend I was asked how I stay motivated to run, especially when busy.

I said I don’t. To be honest, lately I rarely am excited to go on a run beforehand.

Motivation is a temporary feeling.

But what works for me is I just go. More times than not, 5-10 minutes in, when the blood starts flowing I actually start to feel like running.

Does anyone feel this way as well? Or is it just me?

How many here has had their VO2 tested? Like for real, not a watch estimation.

Curious as to what VO2 Max is and why it is important, and how to improve it?
