Goodbye, social media.

We do so many things just to return to one place: health, happiness, love. Social media engagement fast tracks us to the full spectrum of emotions, information and ideas - some of them are invited and some are not. The identity heist is prevalent throughout all internet activities, and particularly so with the incorporation of AI and Metadata. Social media platforms seem to be leading the charge on this overtly transparent design.

Our mission at The Burning Barrel is to respect the cycle of nature, celebrate our relationships with the Elements and with one another - and to provide a place where you can do the same. Your enthusiasm and support via social media over the years has been much appreciated and we hope that our absence on these platforms does not compromise our connection with you. Our Instagram and Facebook accounts will not disappear, for we want to celebrate the work we do, the fun we have, and honor the precious interactions we’ve shared with you on these platforms.

As life evolves here at The Burning Barrel, we are still inspired to share it, so we created a new installation on our website: “Everyday Life on The Farm”. These posts will be updated and archived weekly, giving you a ground-up, bird’s eye view of our day-to-day. We’ve been having a lot of fun creating the content, so check it out and let us know what you think!

Please stay in touch through our website, email, telephone, and in person. The future is bright and we’ll have much to share – we know you will too.

Global Partners from .org_ came all the way from Kenya, Uganda, Brazil, India and The Philippines to conference in Kansas City - and rejuvenate at The Burning Barrel. A group whose mission is to bring safe water and sanitation to the world has quite a task on their table. We were honored to host them and their appreciation filled our cup, so to speak.

“This food, this drink, this place is giving me great healing”

“I am reminded of home when I am here. We spend all of our time outdoors - working, playing, cooking, eating - and I see that you do to. It is beautiful.”

“Your food is very special. I can actually TASTE it, every bite is perfect. The chicken is real, the asparagus and mushrooms, everything is so fresh. It’s like we cook at home and I never taste food like this when I am in America.”

“How did you build this? My home is surrounded by mango and mahogany - I’m going to build a porch just like this one to sit and enjoy the nature.”

Much gratitude to these kind humans for reminding us of what’s important, what’s real. Safe travels home!

June / July Reservations are now open! Limited space available ✨ Only 12 sparkling summer nights on the calendar this year ✨

Spring unfurling: The high tunnel will be bursting with succulent greens, hardy beets & bright radish, and we’ll be picking juicy mulberries and blackberries before long. Harvesting 2 Mangalistas next month and 120 chickens in early June - anyone ever raised Kosher Kings? New to us!

In 2025, our emphasis will be on growth. Quality, not quantity, is the root of our elemental design, and we can’t wait to share these new developments with you.

As Spring gives way to Early Summer, we sincerely look forward to seeing around our table again.

Elegant & bright, tender & timely - this is energy Nika and Bryan bring.

We were delighted to host their ceremony and celebration this past December, and look forward to watching their beautiful family grow in the years to come.

Thanks to for capturing the light with such grace - this is the first time I’ve ever seen a photographer run, jump, and dart get the shot 📸 !

Winter weddings are keeping the fire burning.

Nora & Kerwin , 2 of the most gentle and enthusiastic people on the planet, honored us with the celebration of their union this January. When we first spoke, she said the vibe they were going for was “hygge” : a word in Danish and Norwegian that describes a cozy, contented mood evoked by comfort and conviviality (Wikipedia).

Together, with the floral talents of , the loving touch provided by their family and friends, and as captured by , we found it.

Sincere congratulations!

A quiet, focused and playful Winter has taken over the farm. As the snow begins to melt, may we all ready ourselves to embrace the lingering cold and greet the year of the Wood Snake -

The entire body of the snake lies on the ground, feeling every vibration, every footstep, every pin drop. The snake’s energy is grounded, practical, and cautious.

Just one weekend left in 2024 - and the fires are burning bright. As this final menu develops, we’re reminded of what unique preparations are possible with the late season’s harvest, and the early tap of the larder.

If we don’t see you for the 8 Course this weekend (8 seats left on Friday / 2 left on Saturday), we’ll welcome you with open arms come next May!

🔥Now booking catering, private events and Prairie Weddings during the off-season. The farm is gorgeous in the quiet cold, and the cedar & glass enclosed dining porch is cozy and bright🔥
