Lap the Lake, Lyndon State Bank, and Liberty Real Estate are teaming up once again for the Melvern, KS Sunflower Days Parade, and we’d love to have your kids join us! (And yes, that includes the grown ups who still think adventure and dressing like superheroes sounds like a good time.)

This year’s theme is Comic Strip Heroes, and we’re inviting you to become part of our Heroes in Motion crew!

Bring:
🚲 Bikes
🛴 Scooters
🏃 Running shoes
😁 Big smiles

We’ll have some decorations available while supplies last to help transform your little hero into a parade superstar.

📍 Marais des Cygnes Valley school
🕕 6:15 PM if you need to decorate/6:40 if you come super hero ready
🎉 Parade begins at 7:00 PM

Parents:
Please plan to pick up your child at the Railroad Park immediately following the parade.

Our goal is simple: encourage everyone to get outside, get moving, and have fun, whether that’s on two wheels or two feet!

After a few final tweaks and navigating a brand new registration platform… Lap the Lake 2026 registration is officially OPEN. 🚴‍♀️🏃‍♂️🎒🔥

A few things to know before you jump in:

🏁 NEW for 2026:
We’re adding a podium category for our Single Speed crew in The Challenger Deep (50+ miles)!
Single speed can still be selected in any event category—but The Challenger Deep will have its own podium recognition this year. 👏

⚡E-BIKES WELCOME
We know adventure comes with different gears—and e-bikes are absolutely welcome at Lap the Lake. 🇺🇸
Whether you’re riding for fun, extending your distance, riding with family, easing back into activity, or simply choosing the ride that fits you best… we’re glad you’re here.
🏆 E-bike participants are not eligible for podium awards but we’re kicking around something fun and special for our e-bike crew this year… stay tuned.
(Please make sure to select the E-bike option during registration so we can plan accordingly.)

🌊 Full Fathom (100-mile route) update:
We quietly retired Full Fathom (100-mile route) for 2026 due to participation trends… BUT if enough people miss it and demand it back… never say never for 2027. 😉

🎒 Special Edition Ruck Challenge:
Still unfolding (details coming 👀) but you’ll see the option to add it at the end of checkout for $20 OR do it as a standalone adventure.

If you add rucking onto another event:
🏆 You can still podium in your main event
🎁 All Ruck finishers will earn a special edition finisher item
⏰ There will be a start cutoff time (details coming)

📌 One quick registration tip:
After you complete registration, Race Roster will show important event information on the confirmation screen that does NOT currently get emailed out. Before you click away… take a minute to read it, screenshot it, save it—whatever works for you. I’ll still send detailed event communication closer to race day, but if you want the details now… don’t skip that page. 👀

La Grind weekend recap… 🚴‍♀️🔥

We rolled into Day 1 with good energy, great people, and maybe a little hint of what’s coming for 2026 Lap the Lake! 👀
If you were there this weekend… there’s a good chance you are in the know now. 😉

Snuck in a quick selfie with the beautiful Amy, the women behind the magic of La Grind! 💜

Got to roll out both days with Allen 🐐
He told me 5 years ago to dust off my bike and sign up for La Grind… and he’s been an inspiration ever since. Watching him roll in strong on Day 1 just reminded me why we choose to do hard things. 💪

Day 1’s 30 miles… Gillian asked how fast we were planning to ride, like we actually had a game plan 😂
Knowing spring training hadn’t exactly been elite, I threw out an optimistic 13.5…
…and somehow between the three of us, we made it happen! 🙌
(With Angie pulling away at the end like that CarboRocket hit just a little different 😳🔥)

Gillian even taught me a few new tricks… definitely tucking those away for later (swiffer) 😉

Then Day 2 showed up with the gusty wind, you know, everyone’s favorite training partner at least that’s what Bobby says.😅🌬️
Not exactly average-friendly, but we still held it together and finished with a 13+.

Maybe we’re getting faster…(we started @ 10 mph average) maybe we’re just taking fewer pictures…
and maybe Angie has officially mastered drinking while riding and not braking downhill! 💥
and the real shocker… we’re not even having to eat our emergency Snickers anymore. 😅🍫

And speaking of Angie… 🔥
1st place on the podium, baby!! 🥇
So dang impressed…strong, steady, and absolutely earned.

So here it is… proof we held up our end of the deal on that 30/30 two-day challenge y’all voted us into…

Angela and I just out here at the lake… trying to remember how to bike 😅🚴‍♀️

Snuck in a little 20+ mile ride and let’s just say… we’re working our way back into bike shape 💪😂

BUT… BIG NEWS… I FINALLY clipped into my pedals (only took me… oh… 3 years 🤷‍♀️).
And the real win?? 👉 Zero tip-overs… so far 😎👏

Pretty sure Gillian is already reporting this to Drew 🤣
Which is fair… because I’m almost positive I was the one who told him to clip in years ago… and they’ve all been waiting on me ever since 😂

Also got to catch up with Carmen (our Lap the Lake artist 🎨) while she was out getting her miles in, and you know we had to talk podium backdrop ideas and dialing in these shirts 👀🔥
We’re getting soooo close on a few things and let’s just say… we are real excited about this year’s theme!

Okay okay… I know it’s been a hot minute since a Lap the Lake update 👀
But I promise… it’s for a GOOD reason.

We’re getting ready to roll out registration on a NEW platform, and I’m not even gonna lie, I’m a little nervous about it since I’m technically challenged.😅

Little by little, things are coming together behind the scenes… and yes 👀 there will be a new race option this year.👊

Translation:
Registration drop is coming… and you’re gonna want to be ready.

Angela and I had to opt out of the Flint Hills Gravel Ride this year because adulting was on FULL overload… 😅
(and a grumpy knee thrown in the mix for good measure)
Which means we were cheering you all on from our phones this time, and WOW, y’all rocked it 🔥
Seeing all your posts had me feeling that post-event FOMO and fired up to get back in the saddle.

Can’t wait to see you all at La Grind - Emporia, KS.

Be honest… are your taxes done yet or are you living on the edge like me? 😅
Apparently I’ve been grounded until mine are completed.
(if you know me… that usually means extension season 🙃)
In my defense… I usually prepare 4–5 a year,
just always save ours for last.

But don’t worry… I negotiated a weekend release with Angela and snuck in some…

“So are you gonna do your taxes with the rest of the world this year or…?” 😂. My response.. “Have you ever known me to be normal?” 😁

If procrastination was a sport… I’d be podiuming! 🥇

Alright… I need y’all cheering me across the finish line on this one, let’s get these taxes DONE and 6th annual Lap the Lake registration open! 🙌

A little late posting this from Sunday's ride, but I hate to miss sharing an adventure. 🚴‍♀️
Angela and I grabbed some miles rolling through the campgrounds again, our go-to route when the back roads are too muddy from all the rain plus we get to act silly for Eric, and Jamie’s cameras at the Melvern Lake Marina.✌🏻
Kansas wind showed up like it always does, my morning leg workout didn’t fuel my ride, and I got to use my bike as a blocker after I was dismounted by a German Shepherd until his mom got there to keep him from enjoying my Achilles tendon. Angela, at least I hope you were going to video me outrunning him. 😆
But all in all, it was still a beautiful day for a little wind therapy. We are still trying to figure out how to work less and adventure more, but until then, we have learned that if you don’t plan them, they won’t happen. So here are some of our favorites we have on the schedule this year:
Flint Hills Gravel Ride and Run
La Grind - Emporia, KS
Tornado Trot & Trail
And of course we’re already planning and counting down to our very own hometown favorite, Lap the Lake, on October 10. If you’ve raced Lap the Lake before, you probably recognize this stretch of road in our first picture.
