🇺🇸 OLD ABE 5K+ & 3+ — MILE BIKE — BREAKWATER NATURE TRAIL PHOTOS! 📸🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️

A little trail time, a little fresh air, and a whole lot of miles being made! 🇺🇸

Our friend Melissa Bradley was back at the Breakwater Nature Trail, snapping pictures of our Old Abe 5K runners and 3-mile bike riders as they made their way out of the trail! And of course, her son Tucker was right there cheering everyone on! ❤️🤍💙

These two look forward to Lap the Lake every year, and we sure love having them back! A BIG thank-you to Melissa and Tucker for another year of capturing memories, cheering on participants, and being part of the fun!

And how about Lacie from High Gear, trading in her bike helmet for her walking shoes this year! 🚴‍♀️➡️🚶‍♀️ Eight months pregnant and still showing up to put in those 5K miles! 💪❤️

And judging by some of these pictures, we had a few folks making a race of it right down to the finish! Nothing like a little friendly competition to wrap up those miles! 🏁🇺🇸

📸 Enjoy the pictures! Find yourself, tag your friends, and feel free to save your favorites!

🇺🇸 Red, White, Blue & a Little Liberty Too! 🚴❤️🤍💙

Another round of Lap the Lake 2026 memories rolling in!

For years, Carla with Liberty Real Estate has helped hold down our Liberty Tunnel Weep Station, but this year she traded her volunteer hat for a bike helmet and took on Mokohoko’s Last Stand 13 mile ride! And wouldn’t you know it, she pedaled her way to a 1st PLACE podium finish! 🥇👏

Thankfully, she left the tunnel in good hands! Her son, Taye, stepped up to man the Liberty Tunnel and managed to snag some action shots of Mokohoko’s Last Stand and Challenger Deep riders making their way through!

We sure love seeing our volunteers become participants, and the next generation stepping in to keep the hometown support rolling! ❤️

A big ol’ ALL-AMERICAN thank you to Carla, Taye, and Liberty Real Estate for being part of the miles, memories, and magic of Lap the Lake!

📸 Lap the Lake 2026 FINISH LINE PHOTOS — Courtesy of the B-Team! 😂🏁

While Nicole Rose Photography was still out on the rolling hills capturing our Challenger Deep and Mariana Trench riders in action, you had the B-team holding down the fort back at the finish line! 🙋‍♀️📸

I managed to catch a few of you coming through that orange arch, and while I won’t be quitting my day job to become a professional photographer anytime soon, I figured these moments were worth sharing! 😂

So take a peek, find yourself, and feel free to crop, enhance, edit, or work whatever magic you need to make these photos your own!

They may not be picture-perfect, but the moments sure are! 👏

And we’ve got the pictures to prove it!

A HUGE thank you to Gary Jane Kitt for capturing some of the action out on the dam during the Lap the Lake 2026! ❤️

There’s something pretty awesome about seeing so many people out there enjoying the adventure! And what a beautiful day for it! ☀️

🇺🇸 2026 LAP THE LAKE | PODIUM SPOTLIGHT
🚴 OLD ABE — 3 MILE BIKE
🏃 OLD ABE — 5K+ RUN/WALK

🦅 SMALL DISTANCE. BIG HISTORY. PLENTY OF GRIT!

Ever wonder how Old Abe got its name?

Old Abe was a real-life bald eagle who served as the mascot of Wisconsin’s 8th Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Carried into battle alongside the soldiers, he became famous for spreading his wings and letting out a piercing scream when the fighting began!

Now THAT’S a battle cry! 🇺🇸🦅

We figured a little race named after an eagle with that much grit deserved to stick around!

And don’t let the shorter distances fool ya! There’s still plenty of adventure packed into these miles! 😂

🏆 OLD ABE | 5K+ RUN/WALK PODIUM

We’ve heard it more than once… this isn’t your typical 5K!

Mostly pavement, with about a half-mile stretch of primitive trail winding along a beautiful cove near Melvern Lake Marina. The scenery is pretty spectacular, but this course has a way of making you work for it!

Beautiful? Absolutely. A leisurely little 5K? Well, we’ll let our runners answer that one! 🤣

🏃 MALE
🥇 Holden Vaughn — 25:24 ⭐️
🥈 Jake Miller — 28:37
🥉 Zach Stolsfus — 34:42

🏃‍♀️ FEMALE
🥇 Ava Herman — 26:25 ⭐️
🥈 Diane Vaughn — 30:48
🥉 Abigail Jacob — 36:10

🔥 TWO NEW 5K COURSE RECORDS!

Holden Vaughn didn’t just take first place. He knocked an impressive 4 minutes and 12 seconds off David Johnson’s previous male record of 29:36!

And Ava Herman claimed the female course record, crossing in 26:25 and taking 40 seconds off Jennifer Kongs’ previous record of 27:05!

That’s some serious hustle on a course that doesn’t exactly hand out easy miles! 👏

And a special shoutout to 13-year-old Zach Stolsfus, who earned himself a spot on the male podium! The future is looking fast! 💪

🚴 OLD ABE | 3 MILE BIKE PODIUM

Now this little race holds a special place in our hearts. ❤️

Only THREE riders took on Old Abe’s bike course this year, but what a fun little family showdown it turned out to be!

🚴 MALE
🥇 Wyan Bowman — 34:02

🚴‍♀️ FEMALE
🥇 Cassidy Shilling — 34:00 ⭐️
🥈 Ashlyn Bowman — 34:50

That’s right! Dad Wyan, daughter Ashlyn, and cousin Cassidy made this one a family affair!

And Cassidy wasn’t messing around! She crossed the finish line just TWO SECONDS ahead of Wyan, taking the overall win AND setting a new female course record!

Cassidy’s 34:00 knocked 4 minutes and 22 seconds off Rosalena Schrader’s previous female record of 38:22! 🔥

Ryan Reno’s male course record of 28:26 is still holding strong!

❤️ WHY WE LOVE OLD ABE

We’ve talked about retiring this little bike race a time or two, but we just can’t bring ourselves to do it!

Why? Because sometimes these shorter distances are where it all begins.

For some, it’s their very first race. For others, it’s a chance to get the kids involved, ride alongside family, or simply experience Lap The Lake without committing to the bigger miles.

And we think that’s worth keeping around!

After all, everybody has to start somewhere. Who knows? Today’s Old Abe rider might just be a future Challenger Deep finisher! 😉

🏆 THREE NEW COURSE RECORDS, SOME FAMILY FUN, AND A WHOLE LOT OF HEART!

Congratulations to every podium finisher and every participant who took on Old Abe this year!

Whether you’re chasing a record, trying something new, or just enjoying a few miles with your favorite people, there’s a place for you at Lap The Lake.

Big miles, little miles… they ALL count! ❤️

🇺🇸 2026 LAP THE LAKE | PODIUM SPOTLIGHT
🚴 STAYIN’ SHALLOW — 6 MILE BIKE
🏃 STAYIN’ SHALLOW — 10K RUN/WALK

Stayin’ Shallow? Well, things got a little DEEP for a few folks! 😂

Don’t let the name fool ya! Stayin’ Shallow might be one of our shorter adventures, but there’s still plenty of opportunity to test those legs!

This out-and-back course takes participants across the Melvern Lake Dam, serving up some beautiful lake views, fresh Kansas air, and just enough challenge to make you earn that finish line!

🏆 STAYIN’ SHALLOW | 6 MILE BIKE PODIUM

🚴 MALE
🥇 Covy Confer II — 15:45 ⭐️
🥈 Richard Burns — 20:41
🥉 Sabre Bowman — 26:11

🚴 FEMALE
🥇 Susan Lacey — 27:22 ⭐️
🥈 Adela Bowman — 32:17
🥉 Rosa Schneider — 34:24

🏆 STAYIN’ SHALLOW | 10K RUN/WALK PODIUM

🏃 MALE
🥇 Asher Delmott — 36:06 ⭐️
🥈 Ryan Helmuth — 58:21
🥉 Nick Ratzloff — 59:54

🏃‍♀️ FEMALE
🥇 Alex Griffin — 56:30
🥈 Ann Jacob — 57:40
🥉 Jenna Redecker — 57:44

🏆 THREE NEW COURSE RECORDS! 🔥

⭐️ Covy Confer II — 6 Mile Bike | Male — 15:45
⭐️ Susan Lacey — 6 Mile Bike | Female — 27:22
⭐️ Asher Delmott — 10K Run | Male — 36:06

Both 6-mile bike records fell, along with the men’s 10K record!

AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT ASHER FOR A MINUTE?! 😳🔥

Asher didn’t just break the previous 10K course record of 58:17… he absolutely ANNIHILATED it, shaving off a whopping 22 MINUTES AND 11 SECONDS!

That’s a blistering 5:49 per mile pace!💨

And here’s the kicker… Asher ALSO holds the male course record for Mokohoko’s Half Marathon + at 1:22:04!

So, Asher… we’ve gotta ask. Are you coming back for that 5K record at Lap the Lake 2027 | Year 7?! 👀😂

🏆 AND ONE RECORD IS STILL STANDING STRONG!

A tip of the hat to Molly Priest, who continues to hold the female Stayin’ Shallow 10K course record at 49:55! 👏

Who’s coming for that one in 2027?! 👀🔥

😂 AND THEN THERE WERE THE BONUS MILES…

While Asher was busy setting records, a few of our other 10K runners were apparently getting a little more adventure than they signed up for!

A few followed the Mokohoko half marathoners and missed their turn, adding roughly an EXTRA MILE to their day! 😳

And here’s the kicker…

🥈 Ryan Helmuth, our SECOND PLACE male finisher, was one of them!

That’s right. Ryan ran an extra mile and STILL managed to land himself on the podium!👏👏

To everyone who earned a few unexpected bonus strides, thanks for rolling with the adventure! We promise those weren’t part of the original plan! 😂

Whether you were chasing a podium, setting a record, enjoying the scenery, or accidentally making your own course a little longer, we’re glad you came out and made some miles and memories with us!

Congratulations to ALL our Stayin’ Shallow finishers!

🇺🇸 2026 LAP THE LAKE | PODIUM SPOTLIGHT
🚴 MOKOHOKO’S LAST STAND — 13.4 MILE BIKE
🏃 MOKOHOKO’S HALF MARATHON + — 13.4 MILES

Don’t let the mileage fool ya! 😳

Mokohoko’s Last Stand might be one of our shorter cycling adventures, but there’s nothing easy about it!

A little gravel, a trip through the historic railroad tunnel, and several miles of prairie trail winding alongside the shoreline and coves of Melvern Lake. Beautiful scenery? Absolutely. A leisurely stroll through the countryside? Not exactly! 😂

Whether you’re on two wheels or two feet, this adventure has a way of making you earn every mile!

🏆 MOKOHOKO’S LAST STAND | BIKE PODIUM

🚴 MALE
🥇 Dustin Barnes — 57:58 ⭐️
🥈 Mark Schondelmaier — 1:20:47
🥉 Weslee Sloop — 1:23:24

🚴 FEMALE
🥇 Carla Sloop — 1:28:40
🥈 Carol Elaine Campbell — 1:28:56
🥉 Katie Dugar — 1:28:59

🏆 A NEW COURSE RECORD — BY ONE SECOND!

For the past several years, our 13.4-mile bike course records have been a family affair, with mother-and-son duo Wendy and Chet Johnson holding the female and male records, BOTH at 57:59!

Well, Dustin Barnes decided to shake things up in 2026, crossing the finish line in 57:58 and taking the male course record by ONE. SINGLE. SECOND! 😳🔥

But don’t count Mom out! Wendy’s female record of 57:59 is STILL standing strong! 💪

AND HOW ABOUT THAT FEMALE FINISH?! 🔥

Just 19 seconds separated our top three ladies, with only THREE SECONDS between second and third!

And a big shoutout to 12-year-old Weslee Sloop, who pedaled his way onto the male podium in THIRD PLACE! 👏

From 12-year-old Weslee to 65-year-old Mark Schondelmaier, that’s a 53-year age difference on the men’s podium alone! How cool is that?!

⚡ E-BIKE | TOP FINISHERS

🥇 MALE — Brian Edwards | 53:36
🥇 FEMALE — Jackie Wambach | 53:35

And would you look at that?! Just ONE SECOND separated our top male and female E-Bike finishers!
Something tells us there’s a rematch coming in 2027! 😂

🏃 MOKOHOKO’S HALF MARATHON + | PODIUM

Thirteen-point-four miles of beautiful scenery, challenging terrain, and plenty of opportunities to question why you signed up in the first place! 🤣

MALE
🥇 Stephen Spinks — 1:47:20
🥈 Blaise Mosmeyer — 1:51:10
🥉 Easten Garrett — 2:05:05

FEMALE
🥇 Amber Blaufuss — 2:47:52

Now here’s a crew with some stories to tell!

From 14-year-old Kamron Koch to 76-year-old Edwin Woerner, a whopping 62 years separated our youngest and oldest half marathoners! Proof that adventure doesn’t come with an age limit! 💪

And how about Dave Kinley, who traveled all the way from Normal, Illinois, to tackle 13.4 miles of Kansas terrain?! We love seeing folks venture our way from beyond the Sunflower State! 🌻

A special shoutout to Stephen Spinks, who not only claimed the top spot on the men’s podium but has been a great supporter and promoter of Lap The Lake. We sure appreciate you helping spread the word!

And let’s hear it for Amber Blaufuss, our ONLY female half marathoner this year! 👏

🏆 AND THE HALF MARATHON RECORDS STILL STAND!

A tip of the hat to our current course record holders:

🏃 MALE — Asher Delmott | 1:22:04
🏃‍♀️ FEMALE — Katie Strawder-Schuster | 2:08:43

Those records survived another year! Who’s coming to give them a run for their money in 2027?! 👀🔥

From our youngest podium finishers to our seasoned adventurers, Mokohoko’s Last Stand continues to prove that the miles are only part of the story.

Congratulations to our podium finishers and EVERY participant who took on this challenge! Whether you were chasing a record, chasing a podium, or just out making miles and memories, we’re glad you chose to spend them with us!

🇺🇸 2026 LAP THE LAKE | PODIUM SPOTLIGHT
🚴 MARIANA TRENCH — 27 MILES

The Original. The Adventure That Started It All! 🌊

This 27-mile ride is where it all began, with a little over 30 adventurers willing to come out and give it a go. What started as one bike ride has grown into something pretty special, but this course will always hold a little extra place in our hearts!

And don’t let the distance fool you. This original route has plenty of MOXIE, beautiful Kansas scenery, and the kind of hills your grandparents talk about… somehow uphill on BOTH sides of the lake! 😅🚴

Whether you’re chasing a podium finish, testing your limits, or simply enjoying the ride at your own pace, the Mariana Trench is what you make of it!

🏆 MARIANA TRENCH | OVERALL PODIUM

MALE
🥇 Mychal Johnson — 1:27:09
🥈 Bobby Thompson — 1:30:26
🥉 Tom Zuckerman — 1:36:41

FEMALE
🥇 Judy Decker — 1:42:50
🥈 Joyce Wheatley — 1:44:37
🥉 Elizabeth Tabares — 1:50:25

And how about our third-place male finisher, Tom Zuckerman, just 12 years old! 🤯👏

In fact, this year’s Mariana Trench brought together riders ranging from 12 to 78 years young! That’s a 66-year age span on ONE course! Pretty cool proof that adventure doesn’t come with an age limit. ❤️

🚴⚡ MARIANA TRENCH | E-BIKE HONORS

🏆 E-BIKE | FIRST PLACE
🥇 Doug Piper — Male | 1:37:27
🥇 Tina Nell Murray — Female | 1:44:52

A big congratulations to our E-bike leaders! We’re glad to have you along for the adventure!

⏱️ THE RECORDS STILL STAND!

Our 2026 podium finishers put down some impressive times, but the Mariana Trench course records are still holding strong!

🏆 FEMALE COURSE RECORD
Brittany Kramer — 1:37:31

🏆 MALE COURSE RECORD
Alexander Steflik — 1:24:16

Think you’ve got what it takes to challenge those times in 2027? 😉 We’ve got a little friendly competition waiting for you!

Congratulations to ALL our Mariana Trench riders and podium finishers! Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or joined us for the first time this year, thank you for being part of the adventure that started it all.

One original course. Generations of adventurers. And a whole lot of miles and memories made along the way! ❤️
