Had a phenomenal time recording a few holiday tunes for ktwu11 today! Here’s a short clip of your not-so-average Carol of the Bells from our session!

Capital Holiday will premiere on KTWU on December 18 on at 6:30 PM.

Meet our violist, Ryan Masotto!

Ryan is a violist living in Topeka, KS. He serves as the Orchestra Director for the Shawnee Heights School District. He also serves as one of the Directors for the Topeka Youth Orchestras. On top of being the violist for the Meadowlark Quartet, he serves as Section Violist for the Topeka Symphony, Principal Violist of the Lawrence Community Orchestra, and section violist for the Chamber Orchestra of the Smoky Valley.

On top of all of his performance endeavors, he maintains a private studio of approximately 20 students ranging from age 5 up through high school. His students have seen notable success by being District and All-State qualifiers as well as going on to pursue degrees in music education.

Ryan and his wife Mikayla also welcomed their first baby girl, Ellie, this past June!

Meet our cellist, Brett Lytle!

Brett is a cellist and teacher based in Olathe, KS. Previously he taught middle and high school orchestra in Manhattan, KS. He holds Bachelor’s of Music Education and Cello Performance from Washburn University where he studied with Erinn Renyer, and holds a Master’s Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he studied with Karen Becker.

Meet our other violinist, Avery Parkhurst!

Avery started his musical journey when he first heard his brother practicing Chopin as a baby. At 4 years old he had his first violin lesson, and hasn’t stopped working on his sound ever since.
Avery has accumulated extensive performing experience in orchestral, chamber, and professional settings. In his years as an undergraduate at the KU School of Music, he served as a principal violinist for the KU Symphony Orchestra, performing in venues such as the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts and the Lied Center. Since graduating, he has performed regularly with the St. Joseph Symphony, Topeka Symphony, Kinnor Philharmonic, Lawrence Arts Center, and various ensembles across the Midwest. He is also well-versed in weddings, bar-mitzvahs, and cocktail parties.

As a teacher, Avery utilizes a highly individualistic approach, forming personal relationships with his private students and addressing their specific goals. He has also spent much time as a music specialist for elementary and preschools, most recently serving as Head of the Music Department at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy in Leawood, KS. Avery believes wholeheartedly that music is a pathway towards understanding others, and works with many of his students to overcome anxiety and build confidence in his lessons.

Avery has also enjoyed collaborating with other musicians as a composer, arranger, and session musician. Though his specialty is in classical music, he works across many genres and instruments. He has completed extensive creative work with singer-songwriters, pop-musicians, and playwrights, treating each new musical experience as an opportunity for growth. His list of playable instruments is constantly expanding, so far his studies have included violin, piano/keys, harp, ukulele, guitar, various percussion, and vocals.

Meet one of our violinists, Casey Gregory!

Casey serves the Kansas City Metro as a concert violinist and private educator. As a performer, Casey has shared stages with prolific musicians and groups, such as Sarah Chang, Bill Preucil, Shanghai Quartet. Additionally, Casey has performed globally in a variety of ensembles such as the Eutiner Festspiele in Germany, and with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in North Carolina. Casey earned his Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from The University of Kansas.

Today, Casey performs with the Saint Joseph Symphony and Wichita Grand Opera.
As an educator, Casey successfully prepares his students for college auditions, high school competitions, and any other goals his students strive for.
