Westward Ho 5K & Fun Run This annual event is canceled for 2024 due to ongoing construction impacting our 5K cross-country course. We'll be back in 2025!

Sorry we had to cancel the 2024 Westward Ho! event. We'll be back in the spring of 2025! Construction on the US HWY 40 and K-10 interchange and the relocation of the FUMC property entrance impacts a significant portion of the 5K course that will need to be rebuilt. Work will extend through the first half of 2024.

THE NUMBERS ARE IN!
Kurt Goeser, State Farm Insurance (our title sponsor) and Pastor Kay Scarbrough handed Dana Ortiz and Family Promise of Lawrence staff a check for $6,759, proceeds from the Westward Ho! 5K and Fun Westward Ho 5K & Fun Run. Thanks to our sponsors, runners and other donors, we raised more funds in this, our fourth annual event than any other year! These dollars help Family Promise support families in housing crisis in Lawrence.

We had our best year ever in terms of participation, weather and just plain fun! The 5K course was in great condition and fast, leading to many age-group course records. Kids and families had a blast in the 1K fun run that doubled in size and the bounce house was a hit!

You might recognize Daniel from our Tuesday night group photos.
He ran the Westward Ho! 5k on Saturday and we just got an email from the race director saying “Daniel shattered the course record with a blazing 17:04 time!” Well done! 🏆
We had several others from our group run attend and 6 people from our group medaled at the race!! Congrats! 🎊🎉🎈
R.D. Marty says the course will be maintained throughout the summer and fall to anyone who would like to walk or run.

Families supporting Families!! That's what it's all about! I don't know about you, but my kiddos are still sporting their medals nearly a week later. And other than being pretty cute walking advertisements for the Westward Ho 5K & Fun Run, they are showing appreciation for the challenging sport of running. What an amazing way to instill a love of physical fitness in our youth! Thank you to all who were involved in our 1k!! You all ROCK!!

We had a fantastic turnout this weekend at the Westward Ho! 5k and 1k fun run benefiting Family Promise of Lawrence!
The weather was beautiful and spirits were high! A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated, volunteered, sponsored, donated and cheered us all on! We could not have pulled this off without each one of YOU! Enjoy a few pictures, with more to come!!
