BAWS 2021 dates announced soon! Bay Area World Series (BAWS) has been around since 2004 and has seen over 800 participants receive an opportunity to compete at the D1 level (hundreds of others have also played D2, D3, NAIA, JCball). Additionally, over 200 previous participants have been drafted and/or signed pro contracts and 38 former BAWS players have reached the Big Leagues, including Stephen P
iscotty, Marcus Semien, Joc Pederson, Mitch Haniger, Kris Bubic, J.D. Davis, Max Stassi, Robbie Erlin, Dylan Floro, Andrew Knapp, and Braden Bishop. In the 2020 season three players made their MLB debuts, Bubic, Mark Mathias, Connor Brogdon. The event is (generally) made up of six teams, representing six different regions of Northern California; East Bay, South Bay, Delta (Sac/Stockton), Central Valley, Coast, North Bay. The event was created by me, Blaine Clemmens, a former DI recruiting coordinator (U of San Francisco) and MLB scout (Atlanta Braves). The original incarnation of BAWS brought top players together, on regional teams, playing in a three game tournament setting within a showcase. There was a championship game and a 3rd place game and over the years we have seen teams dogpile after the championship game. It truly has been a wonderful event for all the reasons I envisioned, with some bumps and adjustments along the way and there are still plans for significant improvements, which will benefit the players and the coaches/scouts who attend. In 2007 I was hired by the Atlanta Braves to be their area scout and I then approached another group about a partnership that would allow BAWS to continue to run but it could be run out front by someone other than me, while I remained directly involved, but in the background. The partnership that was created was RNWS, LLC and the name Bay Area World Series was replaced by Rawlings NorCal World Series, now known as Norcal World Series. In the fall of 2009 the Braves hired a new scouting director and that pushed me out of my scouting job. I decided, for the financial sake of my family, to leave the RNWS partnership, with the intention of solely taking back my endeavor. However, the other two partners didn't allow that and kept what I brought them into. So, I relaunched Bay Area World Series. That's why there are two similar events.
