This week, APP Vice President Pablo Perelmuter represented the Association of Professional Piercers at International Product Safety Week and the ICPHSO (Intl Consumer Product Health & Safety Organization) International Symposium in Brussels, connecting with regulators, standards professionals, consumer safety organizations, and other stakeholders from around the world.
Participation in events like these is important to the APP’s mission. Body piercing jewelry presents unique considerations: material composition, manufacturing, intended use, duration and type of body contact, traceability, labeling, testing, and appropriate standards all contribute to consumer safety.
By participating in the broader product-safety community, we can increase awareness of body piercing jewelry as a product category, bring the experience of professional piercers into conversations that affect our industry, and learn from established international approaches to standards, compliance, and consumer protection.
The APP will continue working to ensure that body piercing and body jewelry have a knowledgeable voice at the table.
