(LAS VEGAS) – The Chinese American Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Chinatown Plaza is hosting its twentieth annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Sunday, February 9th 2014, from 10 a.m. As the largest Asian cultural event in Southern Nevada, the Chinese New Year celebration will feature traditional foods, exhibits and entertainment for the entire family. Such performances include the

lion dance, kung fu and martial art demonstrations, acrobats, folk dance, Taiko drummers and noodle stretching. Entertainment will occur between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free.

“As the most important traditional Chinese holiday, this celebration allows us to share with the local community our customs and showcase our culture through music, dance and food,” said James Chen, co-founder and executive director of the Chinese American Chamber of Commerce and principal of the Chinatown Plaza. The 2014 Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, begins on January 31. In Chinese culture, each year is represented by an animal and a person who is born under the year of that animal will display characteristics of that animal. The Chinese New Year is a time for celebration, popping firecrackers, and the popular dragon dance. The Las Vegas Chinese New Year Celebration began in 1994. Each year between 6,000 and 7,000 people from all over the community attend the event. For additional information about the Las Vegas Chinatown Plaza, visit www.lvchinatown.com. Founded in 1997, the Chinese American Chamber of Commerce is an organization that promotes business opportunities and prosperity within the Chinese American community.
