Hello runners. The Las Vegas Fat Boy 5K will not run in 2020 due to an over-abundance of for-profit races (and yes, even if the race you're doing "supports" a charity, it is almost certainly a for-profit race). Simple question to ask: is any person or any company receiving ANY compensation other than the charity you think you're supporting and the hard costs of tshirts and permits? Hopefully runners will become educated and participate in races that give 100% of ticket sales to charity. T-shirts for a large race cost around $2.00 - how much of your ticket price is going to the charity you think you're supporting? Permits, road closures and materials will create a cost, and the non-profit will generally get a small percentage, but the largest portion of most for-profit race ticket sales goes to payroll of the company that hosts the race - not the charity it supports. Ask questions! Hopefully we'll be able to put on another Fat Boy, but as long as folks keep signing up for for-profit races, we will be unable to generate a quality race in Las Vegas. Happy Holidays, and hopefully we'll be back!
