Some information about how your taxes and the Port of South Whidbey's revenue work, and why your port taxes increase by only 1% when your property values increase.

Not necessarily.

If property values go up, doesn’t the Port collect more in taxes? Under Washington law, the Port’s property tax revenue is generally limited to 1% growth each year without voter approval. As property values rise, your Port taxes will only increase 1%.

Meanwhile, the costs of maintaining Port facilities—including insurance, utilities, materials and other expenses—have continued to increase.

This November, voters will consider a six-cent levy lid lift. The measure would add $0.06 per $1,000 of assessed property value. For a home assessed at $866,000, that’s approximately $4.33 per month, or $52 per year.

If approved, the additional revenue would help the Port invest in capital projects to preserve and improve the public facilities it manages across South Whidbey. Learn more about the levy: portofsouthwhidbey.com/levy_info
