On Memorial Day, we honor all who gave everything for this nation — including those who defended a freedom they did not fully have.
LGBTQIA+ service members have always answered the call. They fought in every war, on every front, often in silence. Many were discharged for who they were. Many were buried without their full truth known. All of them were brave.
Today we remember them fully, honestly and with the honor they always deserved. 🏳️‍🌈🇺🇸

Calling all local music makers, vibe curators, and track selectors! 🎧

South Whidbey Pride is building a year-round Q***r & Trans DJ Referral List! While we’re booking talent for Pride Month, local venues, businesses, and neighbors constantly ask us for recommendations for weddings, private parties, and island markets.

We want to ensure our community’s amazing talent gets seen, booked, and paid all year long. If you spin house, vinyl deep cuts, retro disco, or pop anthems—and you’re based on Whidbey Island or surrounding areas (Fidalgo/Anacortes, Skagit, or the North Sound)—we want you on our radar! Local BIPOC, Trans, and Gender Non-Conforming artists are highly encouraged to connect. 🏳️‍⚧️✊🏽🌈

🎵 How to Get on the List:
Email us: Send a note to [email protected]
What to include: Tell us a bit about your style and share a link to a mix, past set, or your music profile (SoundCloud, Spotify, Mixcloud, etc.).

Know a talented local DJ who needs to be on this list? Tag them below or share this post to help us spread the word!

RIP Barney Frank. Thank you for leading the way...

Barney Frank, a pioneering gay politician who helped change the landscape for LGBTQ+ representation in America, has died at age 86.

Frank became the first gay member of Congress to come out voluntarily when he publicly declared his s*xual orientation in 1987.

"Prejudice is based on ignorance," Frank told The Boston Globe in 2011. "And the best way to counterbalance it is with a living example, with reality."

In 2012, at age 72, Frank married Jim Ready and became the first sitting member of Congress to wed someone of the same s*x.

He insisted his male partner be invited to all events where other representatives' spouses were welcome, normalising same-s*x relationships in the halls of power.

Frank died on Tuesday at his home in Maine after entering hospice care with congestive heart failure.

Today marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia — a global call to uphold dignity, equality, and human rights for all. 💛
First observed in 2004, this day honors the 1990 decision to remove homos*xuality from the list of mental disorders — and reminds us how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go.
At its core, this day is about humanity. About recognizing that every person deserves to live freely, safely, and authentically.
Dr. Maya Angelou once said: “We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike.”
Let that truth guide us — toward compassion, understanding, and respect for one another. 💛
