Wednesday afternoon training with Middletown Fire & Emergency Services and Penndel Volunteer Fire Company #1, Station 8.
Career and volunteer staff practiced master stream operations and the benefit of adding an additional outlet on the hydrant in the mix.
The extra line added an additional 30 PSI residual resulting in an additional 500 GPM flow rate.
The two agencies have a great working relationship and often train together.

While conducting an advanced drafting class in Southern New Jersey, Reliance Fire Company engine 12-1 set up a triple tube draft.
The officer side inlet was deployed over a steel bulkhead that would potentially be destructive to the suction hose.
A simple piece of cribbing was enough to protect the hose.
The little details matter.

For everyone that says the side inlet is the only was to go, why not double down.
The first suction tube was connected to the driver’s side inlet and the second was added to the officers side of the rig.
Over 2,000 GPM, but more importantly - less work required on the pump and motor to achieve the higher flow rate.
The fan and step cribbing was added to ease the sag on the suction hose.

Drafting elbows and suction hose.

If you are only carrying 20’ of suction tube you may come up short when operating from a drop tank in the “single-lane” configuration.
The tank is in the front of the engine due to the lack of available space at the dump site.
Adding the drafting elbow and tying up the suction hose to the grab rails provided the reach needed to make the tank with the low level strainer.
Get out and practice these techniques and decide what equipment will work best for your Department.
Note -
1. The engine does not have a front or rear inlet.
2. The company only had 2 -10’ sections available
3. If time and resources allow, steal an extra length of suction hose from another rig.
4. Pad the suction hose with a few towels or turnout coat to protect the finish on the apparatus.
5. Carry as much suction tube as you can if you may be tasked with drafting from your pumper.
6. The clear tube attached to the pump inlet is a site glass we use when training, in this case it was used to step the elbow out from the pump panel.

Weekend Pump Operations 1 class in Lancaster County, PA.
Members from Blue Rock Fire Rescue - Station 903 - HighvilleBlue Rock Fire Rescue - Station 907 - Washington Boro, Blue Rock Fire Rescue (east station) 905, Rohrerstown Fire Company,Lancaster Township Fire Department, and Keystone Wildfire Crew, Inc. attended a 16 hour basic pump operations class.
Training consisted of classroom time explaining pumps, friction loss, nozzle flow, as well as water supply systems. Outside hands on skills of basic pump operation, flowing hand lines, municipal and rural water supply techniques.

Back in the office after an awesome week in Tennessee working on a new project with Task Force Tips and The Water Thieves LLC that will greatly benefit our rural water supply community.
Special thank you to Centerville Volunteer Fire Department for your hospitality the entire week as well as the members from East Hickman Volunteer Fire Department, Rutherford County Fire & Rescue and of course my man Bubba Steele possibly up for an Academy award next year.
Great work by all!

Thursday night training with the crew from Upper Makefield Volunteer Fire Company. Drill consisted of a review of the companies rural water supply equipment, setting up a rural hitch, and transitioning to a dump tank operation.
The UMFC protects the citizens of a very historic community, Washington-Crossing, Bucks County PA. The actions taken in this town almost 250 years ago helped turn the tide of the Revolutionary war.
