Named “The Scarecrow Capital of Ohio,” Fairfield County has 14 communities displaying fantastic scarecrows during the entire month of October. Visit them all, vote for your favorite, and share your pics by using

This self-guided experience is completely free, so don't miss a single one of these cute and clever displays that celebrate the Autumn Experience in Fairfield County. One scarecrow in each community will win the People’s Choice Award (and a $50 Visa gift card), sponsored by Visit Fairfield County, so be sure to vote for your favorite scarecrow in every community.

Taking flight for the 2026 Trail of Scarecrows! ✈️🌾 Voting is officially open! 🗳️

The Wagnalls Community Theater is proud to introduce our entry for Visit Fairfield County’s Trail of Scarecrows: Captain Beverly Bass! 👩‍✈️✨

As we gear up for America 250, we wanted to celebrate a true American pioneer whose courage and leadership redefine what it means to reach new heights. In 1986, Beverly Bass shattered the glass ceiling in the sky to become American Airlines' first female commercial captain, eventually commanding the nation's first all-female flight crew.

When crisis struck on September 11, 2001, her steady hand and unwavering resilience brought her crew and passengers safely to the ground in Gander, Newfoundland, exemplifying the strength, grace, and community spirit that lie at the heart of our nation's story.

Beverly holds a very special connection to our upcoming production of Come From Away, making her the ultimate figure to bridge American history and our theater stage this autumn.
