The Cajun Tennis Classic

The Cajun Tennis Classic October 20-22, 2023 In 1977, UL Tennis, with the enthusiastic support of the Lafayette Tennis Community, founded the Cajun Tennis Classic.

The Cajun Classic became the first corporate sponsored fall collegiate tennis tournament in the nation. Two years later in 1979, with the inception and launch of ESPN, the Cajun Tennis Classic became the first televised collegiate tennis event. After a long hiatus, The Cajun Tennis Classic was re-introduced in 2014, and has evolved into the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic. This tournament has bro

ught some great tennis players to Lafayette. Some of these players have gone on to great success:


Twenty World Grand Slam Winners or Finalists

Twelve NCAA Champions

Two American Olympics Gold Medalists in Doubles

Five World’s (ATP) Top 20 Singles Players

Four World’s #1 Pro Doubles Players

Twenty-One ITA College Hall of Fame Players & Coaches


After experiencing the hospitality and “joie de vivre” of UL and Lafayette, many of these players and coaches have become ambassadors for our University and Community. Our goal is to help this great tournament become a permanent annual event on the UL and Lafayette Calendar.
