The Festival, keeping Lafayette Mardi Gras alive

So we all know that Mardi Gras is a fun and exciting time in Lafayette. You may also be aware of how much money it brings into our local economy every year. But have you ever wondered just who and what pays for all of these festivities? Lafayette hosts several individual parades through the 5 day Mardi Gras weekend that runs from Friday through Mardi Gras day. These great familiy activities are funded through and made possible by The Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association. They pay for the barricades, police presence, and everything it takes to hold these events. The festival at Cajun Field, Le Festival de Mardi Gras a Lafayette, is put on by the association and is their main source of funding for the parades every year. That means that when you come out to the festival to watch great bands at the soundstage, ride the rides at the fair, and watch the parades roll through the fairgrounds, you are helping to keep Mardi Gras alive in Lafayette by helping to raise funds for next year's parades. Please come out for five days of fun and experience this family friendly Mardi Gras festival, starting Friday evening at 6pm. Hope you all have a safe and Happy Mardi Gras!
