Take a minute and watch this preview of LUX from the San Diego Master Chorale, then come hear it live.

On Sunday, April 12 at 4pm, the San Diego Master Chorale returns to St. James by-the-Sea with Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna.

Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms sets Hebrew texts with a mix of driving, asymmetrical rhythms and moments of real stillness, the famous opening alone shifts the room immediately. Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna moves in the opposite direction, built from long phrases, careful voice leading, and a harmonic language that unfolds slowly but deliberately. Heard together, they make a compelling contrast in pacing, texture, and emotional weight.

Bryan Anderson and Yuri McCoy, four hands and four feet, brought the organ to life with brilliance, coordination, and a lot of fun along the way.
