The Haynes-Apperson Max Richey Street Vault is an annual pole vaulting event that is held in downtown Kokomo, Indiana during the Haynes-Apperson Festival. Since then, it has become a main attraction in the festival, attracting many distinguished competitors from olympic trial vaulters and conference champions to state qualifiers and NCAA champions. gh School, where he participated in all sports and was the 1956 Indiana State Pole Vault Champion with a height of over 13 feet. He attended Wabash College on a track scholarship and participated in the 1960 Olympic trials, placing 11th in the nation in the decathlon. Richey Manufacturing that made track and field equipment. He was an Indiana State High School track official, NCAA track official and certified athletics official for USA Track and Field. Richey passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010.
