Ever think about where all the sand and dirt goes that gets washed down your drain?

If you're on city sewer, the first stop at the wastewater plant is usually the grit tank. It's a big tank built to slow the water down, kind of like a lazy spot in a river, so the heavy stuff like sand, pebbles, shells and coffee grounds sinks to the bottom while everything else keeps moving.

That grit gets sucked out and hauled off before it can chew up the pumps and equipment further down the line.

If your home is on a septic system, though, there's not typically a grit tank to catch it, so do your best to keep sand out of your drains entirely. It settles in the tank and takes up space, which means more frequent pumping.

It is an important job to keep things flowing and we are happy to do it!

Spooky Season is here!

Atlantic OBX is on our sponsor list. They have already dropped off the porta jon. They are a great company and help us every year. They bring us dumpsters after the show to save us from many trips to the local recycling center. Thank you Atlantic OBX for your help. We couldnt do it without you and the whole community coming together to make this happen.

A septic drain field has an average lifespan of 20-30 years with regular maintenance. Pumping every 3-5 years, responsible water usage, and avoiding non-biodegradable items from entering the tank extends the life of your system but when it’s time, it’s time…

And we are here to help!

Contact us at 252-255-2030 for any of your septic system needs! From routine maintenance, pumping, and inspection to full system install, Atlantic OBX can do it all!

This is a great opportunity for Duck!

Contact us at 252-255-2030 if any additional services are needed 🦆

The Town of Duck is committed to being a strong environmental steward and protecting the natural resources that make our community special. Every day actions can have a significant impact on our groundwater, waterways, wildlife, and coastal environment.

For the second time, the Town is offering **Healthy Tanks, Happy Banks**, a program that gives Duck property owners the opportunity to learn more about their septic systems and take steps to help protect their property and Duck’s coastal environment.

Eligible property owners can receive a complimentary, non-invasive septic inspection at no cost. Inspections are expected to begin in mid-October, after the Jazz Festival. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
