Before strength training was a category, it was an argument.

Bob Hoffman founded York Barbell in 1932 and spent the next several decades making that argument in print, writing books and articles that pushed exercise on the military and the general public when most people thought lifting was a sideshow act. The International Weightlifting Federation later named him the Father of World Weightlifting.

His company developed some of the first lines of exercise equipment in the industry. From the 1930s through the 1970s, the York Barbell Club took over 40 national championships and produced numerous Olympic gold medalists.

The reason a squat rack is normal equipment today is that people spent ninety-four years insisting it should be.
