Hey friends, Your Media Mothman CJ Ferguson here.
Sometimes a story comes along with a photo and it’s worth more in memory than Fort Knox has gold.
This image was taken by our Media Team Photographer Josh Williams of Local Outsider Photography while at Smoky Mountain Terror. While the image isn’t in the normal line of Spooky, this image was taken at Terror and the story behind the image deserves to be heard:
Meet Jonathan Riggs, he and his wife have been attendees of our shows for years and a great addition to the many cosplayers that love to come spend time at our shows. This past weekend they came out to Smoky Mountain Terror and had a blast. While walking around Josh approached and asked for a photo. Holding his fist to the camera, this epic image was born.
But it started before that.
The ring you see has history. It belonged to his father, John Riggs, that he had gifted it to over 20 years ago. He wore that Lantern insignia every day after that until he passed away in July. There are even images of him wearing it with legends of the industry like Neal Adams.
There was no question that it was one of his most beloved items.
Now, his son Jonathan carries on that tradition in his memory and our Smoky Mountain Media Team was lucky enough to catch this moment.
The lesson we take from it all is this…While those we hold dear may have to leave this world, we never truly lose them. There is always a part of them that leaves their mark on us and makes us who we are. In this case, it came in the form of a son and a ring and proof that where there is will to do so, there is always a way to carry on a legacy.
Thank you Jonathan for sharing your dad’s Legacy with us.
