Happy Father’s Day to all the Kerr-dads out there. 💚

Thanks for bringing your kids to the Ranch, teaching them the songs, sharing the shade, carrying the gear, and helping pass this place from one generation to the next.

A few of these photos are from this year, and a few are sweet throwbacks from festivals past. Some of those kids are grown now, some are bringing kids of their own, and somehow Kerrville keeps holding all of us through it.

This year, on Saturday, May 23rd, the Kerrville Folk Festival Foundation Board was honored to present the first annual Mary Muse Spirit of Kerrville Award to Michael D’Eath.

Created in honor and memory of Mary Muse, the first Executive Director of the Kerrville Folk Festival Foundation, this award recognizes someone whose service, spirit, and love for this community help carry Kerrville forward. Mary served as Executive Director for eight years, bringing her joyful, charismatic, optimistic, and endlessly creative problem-solving spirit to the work. Her passion for the festival, the music, and the people who make this place what it is helped guide us through some of our most difficult chapters, including the pandemic, when her leadership quite literally helped save the festival.

Mary also met her husband, Bill, right here at Kerrville, which feels fitting for someone whose life and work were so deeply woven into the fabric of this community.

This year’s award was presented to Michael D’Eath, “in recognition of your sustained and impactful contributions to the festival community through your hardworking, welcoming spirit, and service as a muse to others by supporting songwriters, musicians, and volunteers with a selfless, giving spirit.”

Michael has given himself to Kerrville in countless ways, from serving on our Board, to helping organize and administer the Harmonica Workshop, to lending his sharp eye and steady hand to proofreading the festival program. He is one of those people who shows up wherever he is needed, always ready to help, always thinking about how we can do better, and always working toward the highest version of what this festival can be.

Michael, thank you for your generosity, your care, your wisdom, and your deep commitment to this community. We are grateful for all the ways you help keep the Spirit of Kerrville alive. 💛

Today we want to send a huge wave of gratitude to two of the people who help keep the Kerrville Folk Festival moving with grace, grit, and a truly impressive amount of behind-the-scenes wizardry: our Volunteer Coordinators, Kate Prejean and Donette Jez.

Kate and Donette make an incredible team. For months leading up to the festival, they are working through schedules, placements, crew needs, questions, changes, curveballs, and all the tiny details that help hundreds of volunteers find their place in this big, beautiful, living, breathing organism we call Kerrville.

And then, once the festival begins, they somehow keep the whole thing humming along in a way that can look effortless from the outside. Spoiler: it is not effortless. It is a TON of care, communication, patience, problem-solving, and heart.

Our volunteer staff is the heartbeat of this festival, and Kate and Donette help make sure that heartbeat stays strong, steady, and full of life.

Please join us in thanking these two incredible women for all they do for our community, our crews, and Quiet Valley Ranch.

It’s been a few days since the last camp was packed, the last goodbye was waved, and the last few cars rolled out of Quiet Valley Ranch. The roads are quiet again. The stages are still. The ranch is slowly returning to its natural rhythm for the year, with only the wind, the trees, the birds, the butterflies, and the echoes of 18 beautiful days of music and friendship keeping it company.

We’ve all gotten some much-needed rest, washed the dust from our hair, unpacked a few things, and started the quiet work of resetting and looking ahead to the rest of the summer.

Every year, we arrive at the Kerrville Folk Festival in springtime, while the hills are still green and the evenings still carry a little chill. By the time we leave, it feels like summer has found us. Something shifts over those 18 days. Old friendships gather another layer of history, new friendships are forged... heck, you may have even fallen in love somewhere along the way.

Thank you for being part of the 54th Kerrville Folk Festival.

Thank you to every artist, volunteer, camper, vendor, sponsor, staff member, mentor, ticket holder, song sharer, porch sitter, tarp staker, coffee drinker, water carrier, trash picker-upper, late-night laugher, early-morning meditator, and everyone who helped make this year what it was.

We hope you left humming a new song and buzzing with that warm fuzzy Kerrville feeling tucked somewhere safe until we gather again.

Happy Day 18, friends!

By now, the dust is part of us. The songs have settled in our bones. The campground has become a neighborhood, then a family, then something even harder to explain.

One of the great gifts of the Kerrville Folk Festival is time. Eighteen days gives a community room to unfold. It gives strangers time to become friends, volunteers time to become artists, artists time to become family, and all of us time to remember why this place matters so much.

This photo of Dr. Sick and Raina Rose was taken almost 20 years ago, when they were working as volunteers at Staff Records. Today, Dr. Sick lit up the Threadgill Theater with a killer afternoon set, and Raina Rose opens our final night of concerts at the Kennedy Outdoor Theater.

That is Kerrville.

Roots running deep. Branches still reaching. A community that keeps growing, circling back, and blooming in ways we could never quite script.

As we step into this final night of the Festival, we’re feeling the weight and wonder of all 18 days: every song shared, every shift worked, every campfire found, every hand offered, every “Welcome Home” spoken and meant.

Our roots run deep.
Our community is thriving.
And somehow, every year, this place brings us full circle… and one day together we’ll heal in the wisdom and we’ll understand.

Today, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the people who make Kerrville possible: our incredible volunteer staff. 💛

They are the hands and hearts behind so much of what happens on Quiet Valley Ranch. They pick up trash and recycling, help keep us safe, welcome artists backstage, feed us in the staff kitchen, solve problems before most of us even know they exist, and show up day after day with grit, generosity, humor, and love.

At noon today, we’ll gather to celebrate the life of Lee Green, the very first Kerrville Folk Festival volunteer. Lee worked tirelessly for this place, and his legacy lives on in every person he encouraged to pitch in, lend a hand, and become part of the community that keeps this Festival alive. It may be Day 16 of the Kerrville Folk Festival… but, that still means we have a whole lot of Fest left!
If you really think about it, for most festivals, they would just be getting started with Day 1.

The final weekend is rolling in, and Quiet Valley Ranch is still full of songs to hear, friends to find, campfires to wander into, and Hill Country evenings waiting to unfold. Whether you’ve been here since Land Rush or you’re just now thinking, “Maybe I can still make it out there…” the answer is yes. Yes, you can!

There’s still plenty of room in the campground, plenty of music on the schedule, and plenty of Kerrville magic left to go around!

Tomorrow night at Kerrville, we’re turning the volume up and closing things out with Vandoliers. 👩‍🎤⚡🤠

Born out of the Texas country-punk wildlands, Vandoliers bring the kind of show that feels equal parts honky-tonk, house party, road song, and beautiful chaos. Fiddle, grit, big-hearted singalongs, and a whole lot of Lone Star electricity… this is a band built to send the night out blazing.
