Racing for Life — $60,000 for our community! 🏇💚

This morning, the Willowdale Steeplechase was proud to present two $30,000 checks to our longtime beneficiaries, Stroud Water Research Center and Penn Vet’s New Bolton Center.

The $60,000 contribution represents proceeds from the 33rd running of the Willowdale Steeplechase, held on May 9, 2026, and continues our longstanding commitment to supporting clean water, veterinary medicine, and the health of our horses and community.

Representatives from both organizations joined members of the Willowdale Steeplechase Board on the racecourse this morning for the presentation — a wonderful reminder of what our mission, “Racing for Life,” is all about.

A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, supporters, volunteers, racegoers, horsemen and community who make this possible year after year. Every ticket purchased, every sponsorship, every volunteer hour and every show of support helps us give back.
We couldn’t do it without you. ❤️

We love being able to support the long term stream monitoring done by our beneficiary!

After days of smoky skies from the Canadian wildfires, recent rains transformed this stream.

It's a reminder that water challenges don't always come one at a time.

Many regions are experiencing longer dry periods interrupted by more intense rainstorms. These swings can change how water moves across the landscape, affecting streamflow, water quality, habitat, and the communities that depend on fresh water.

A stream reflects everything happening across its watershed. What falls from the sky, what happens on the land, and how healthy the surrounding landscape is all influence the water flowing downstream.

That's why scientists study streams over years — not just after individual storms. Long-term monitoring helps us understand how watersheds respond to changing conditions and provides the knowledge needed to protect fresh water in a changing climate.

Every storm tells part of the story. Long-term research helps us understand the whole story.
