Farewell to Melinda Ryder

Today, Kansas City mourns the loss of a true legend.

Melinda Ryder was far more than a drag queen. For over 50 years, she was a leader, a mentor, an innovator, an advocate, and a friend whose impact on the LGBTQIA+ community cannot be measured. Through decades of service, visibility, and unwavering dedication, she helped create spaces where countless people felt seen, welcomed, and loved.

Melinda's legacy lives not only in the performances that brought joy to so many, but in the lives she touched, the community she helped build, and the generations she inspired to live authentically and proudly. She stood as a beacon of strength during difficult times and a source of celebration during our greatest triumphs.

We are better because Melinda Ryder was here. Her kindness, her courage, her wisdom, and her unforgettable spirit will continue to shine through the people and community she nurtured throughout her remarkable life.

Though the spotlight has dimmed, her light will never fade.
Rest in power, Melinda Ryder. Thank you for your decades of love, leadership, and devotion to our community. You will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and eternally celebrated.

💙 To Our MGRA Community,

We want to share an important update regarding the Show-Me State Rodeo.

MGRA has decided that we will not be holding a Show-Me State Rodeo in 2027. Instead, we are shifting our focus toward planning and building an incredible rodeo experience for 2028.

This decision was made with the future of our organization and event in mind. By taking this time to regroup, strengthen our foundation, and prepare for what's ahead, we can ensure that the next Show-Me State Rodeo is stronger than ever.

We know this news may be disappointing, but we are excited about what the future holds. Your support, encouragement, and involvement mean everything to us, and we hope you'll continue this journey with us as we work toward an amazing return in 2028.

Thank you for believing in MGRA and the Show-Me State Rodeo. We'll see you down the road!
