This past October, hundreds of retail design and visual merchandising professionals gathered in Providence, RI, for the 25th annual International Retail Design Conference. Thank you to all of our attendees, speakers and sponsors for sharing your enthusiasm and expertise during the event, and for celebrating our special anniversary year!

VMSD's Awards Luncheon celebrated the magazine's 2025 award winners. This included the 2025 Designer Dozen (retailers and designers age 35 and under making a difference in the industry, featured in VMSD's March/April 2025 issue); the International Visual Competition winners (honoring displays of limited shelf-life, featured in VMSD's July/August 2025 issue); the Retail Renovation Competition winners (honoring "before" and "after" retail renovations and conversions, featured in VMSD's September/October 2025 issue); and the 2025 VMSD/Peter Glen Retailer of the Year Award, this year honoring Printemps (featured in VMSD's September/October 2025 issue).

The Retailer of the Year is chosen based on a three-round vote conducted by VMSD's Editorial Advisory Board and named after VMSD's longtime, late columnist Peter Glen, who was also known as an industry speaker, consultant and author.

While the IRDC 25th anniversary plaque might have been easy to spot… did you catch the preposterous hippopotamus hidden in each team’s display? 👀

As one of this year’s secret ingredients, it challenged teams to get extra creative and sneak this surprise guest into their designs.
