Well, yesterday was an interesting day at Equal Minded Café, to say the least! 😅
Let’s start with the bad news. 🙃
Yesterday, these two knuckleheads watched our staff and waited for the exact moment our barista stepped into the back to check on food cooking for a customer.
In that tiny window, they ran inside, stole the little bit of cash we had behind the register, grabbed the tips our barista had sitting out, and were in and out in UNDER A MINUTE!
They didn’t get away with much money, but that’s really not the point. Having someone violate your space, especially while you’re there working, is both frightening and infuriating.
This is also one of the biggest reasons we’ve moved away from accepting cash and rarely keep any on the premises. Unfortunately, situations like this remind us why.
NOW, for the good news! 🥹☕️
Literally ONE HOUR after this happened, we got notified that Equal Minded Café had been voted a 2026 Nextdoor Neighborhood Fave by the very community we serve! 🏆💚 Nextdoor
Out of all the coffee shops and local businesses in Kansas City, knowing our neighbors took the time to vote for us means more than we can explain.
It’s funny how God and the universe work sometimes. One moment, you’re reminded of the worst in people, and the next, you’re reminded of the very best.
We’ve been proudly serving the Kansas City community on Troost Avenue since 2018, and days like yesterday remind us why we keep showing up.
Two knuckleheads tried to ruin our day, but our neighbors gave us a reason to smile. ❤️
