This week, we’re stepping inside one of the working studios at Zhou B Art Center KC to spend time with Charlie Quinn , one of the artists building their practice here every day. Not just the finished pieces, but the routines behind them. The experiments. The half-formed ideas slowly becoming something real.

If you’ve never wandered through the studios during Open Studios, this is your reminder. Open Studios takes place the second Friday of every month, and this month also features the opening reception for Placemaking, the Zhou B Art Center Resident Artists Group Show.

Studio visits always remind us that every artist space carries its own rhythm. The way materials are placed, works in progress leaning against walls, unfinished thoughts turning into finished pieces — it all tells a story before a single word is spoken.

We recently spent time visiting the studio of resident artist Kayla Traxel , getting a closer look into her process, her environment, and the small details that shape the work she creates inside Zhou B Art Center KC. These moments give us a chance to slow down and connect with the people behind the artwork in a more personal way.

As we head into June with a full lineup of exhibitions, performances, and community events, we’re excited to continue opening the doors wider and inviting you further into the creative life of the building.
