Something Special Singers

Something Special Singers Formed in April 1997, we were a community choir that welcomed new adult members who love to sing. We miss everyone who has been in the group over the years.

We are a community based group accepting bookings for churches, festivals, corporations/businesses, and private parties. We present 1/2 hour of live choral music for your event. Appropriate fee applies. Pre CoVid, we accepted bookings for nursing homes and Manteno Veterans Home each December, free of charge. It is our way to give back to the community. We may accept outside bookings for Christmas

parties depending on schedule availability. Contact us for more information. Performances will resume when it is safe to do so.

I just received a call from former member, Kathleen Massey . She let me know that our dear member Lynn Wulffe passed away this morning. No service information available yet. Please remember her husband Bill and family in your prayers. RIP Lynn.

This Christmas season I was reminded of the wonderful times we had singing for the church and community groups, and retirement and nursing homes. I miss all our choir members. I hope you all had a special time with your family and friends celebrating Jesus' birth. Wishing you all the best in 2025. Judy

I know our group is no longer in existence, but was wondering how everyone is doing, especially in this freezing cold weather? It is nice to stay in contact with former members and keep up with them. Try to stay warm and just think how soon spring will be here.

Today Wed Sept 20th, the choir has chosen to disband. We have put posters out, tried getting friends to join, and tried other ways to enlarge our group. We have only had 7 members along with our director and pianist when we met in May. When we met today, there were 7 present including our director. We are sorry that our group has fizzled out. We have enjoyed our times of getting together, singing at nursing facilities, our Christmas parties, our spring get together, singing for the Strawberry Festival and many other occasions. We will all miss each other, but we all have the contact information to reach out to each other. We may see one another in a store or restaurant or somewhere else, stop for a second to say Hi. It was great getting to know each one, becoming friends and sharing our little life stories of family, vacations, etc.
So, until we meet again along this journey called life thank you everyone for being a friend and co-singer.
I personally want to thank you for allowing me to be your treasurer and your president. I didn't take those positions lightly. I am truly thankful for your trust for each position.

Hi,
We have been meeting since March, but we are postponing practices until further notice due to circumstances beyond our control. We will notify when practices begin again. If you or someone you know would be interested in singing with us, please contact us or have them contact a member of the group. We have a good time and we become friends. We will post when practices resume.

Get your singing voices ready! We will be meeting March 23rd at 1p. for about an hour. For those who sang with us at Christmas time, please bring your music for return. We will be passing out the new music for our summer singouts. We welcome anyone 18 yrs or older to join us, no tryouts, just loves to sing. We entertain at nursing homes , veterans home, or for special occasions at banquets or etc.
We have practices every Thursday from 1p - 2:30p at Asbury Church, Kankakee, although we are not associated with the church or any denomination affiliation, they are kind enough to provide their choir room for us. We are a group that loves to sing and entertain. We travel from Clifton to Manteno, Herscher to St Anne.

Our final Christmas singout of the season, tomorrow December 20, at Westwood Oaks, has been canceled by them due to a CoVid outbreak.

Last Thursday we had a wonderful 1st rehearsal (since CoVid), of Something Special Singers! And, they sounded great! (Photo below) The lady in the front row (far left) is our new accompanist, Meda Long. We had 15 members come, not counting Meda and myself (director). If you know any TENORS or SOPRANOS, encourage them to text me at 815.351.9660 if they are interested in joining. We meet 1:00 each Thursday afternoon in the choir room of Asbury Methodist Church. We are a community choir, and of course we will welcome people who sing any part. Just text me and please include your name in the text, and we will have a music folder ready for you.
