Why is Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 called "Resurrection Symphony?"🌅

This is because Mahler 2 is well known for its themes that reflect upon the grander questions of life and human purpose. The movements break down as follows:

🎼1st movement: Funeral Scene, exploring questions like, "Is there life after death?"

🎼2nd movement: Reminiscence on the nostalgic, happy times in the life of the deceased

🎼3rd movement: Reflection on life through the whimsical narrative setting of "St. Anthony of Padua Sermon to the Fishes"

🎼4th movement: "Urlicht" (Primeval light), set for alto solo. An expression of a faithful desire to return to God for an eternal and blissful life

🎼5th movement: Powerful finale depicting the earth rending open with a "Day of Judgment" motif

These truly larger-than-life themes make Mahler's 2nd Symphony a fitting conclusion to Season 43: Illuminating the Beyond. 🌄

Please join us on Saturday, May 30 at 7:30 and Sunday, May 31 at 3 PM for this showstopping performance!

We are keeping the title a mystery until showtime, but the first person to comment the correct film wins tickets to our WCC Summer Film Series featuring 5 films starting this August. Drop your guesses below!
