Don't miss the final event of the 2022 Arkansas Science Festival! Picture a Scientist is a National Science Foundation-funded documentary exploring the impact of gender discrimination and sexual harassment on three generations of women who are scientists. Following the movie, there will be a panel discussion by a group of women academics with participation from the audience. Pizza and popcorn will be provided. Thanks to everyone who supported Science Trivia Night at Native Brew Works! The competition was "stiff" in the questions of the macabre. Congratulations to The Ghouls, 1 Billion Missing Snow Crabs, and Quiz in My Pants for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place showings in a never-ending tie-break that finally came down to rock-paper-scissors!

Museum to Host Black History Month STEAM Experiences in February

During every Saturday in February, Arkansas State University Museum will present Black History Month STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) experiences, from 1 until 3 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

“This Black History Month, we will deliver activities to inform children of most ages how fugitives from slavery intelligently utilized STEAM concepts as tools for direction, concealment and eventual liberty,” according to Jill Kary, curator of education.

Guests will discover how African American slaves searched the night sky to find the North Star and used it to navigate their way to freedom. Visitors will also explore moon shadows to understand how they helped or hindered freedom seekers and will employ strategies used to camouflage these shadows. They will be inspired by song lyrics that directed “Underground Railroad” travelers and will pen directional song lyrics of their own.

"Good Vibrations: The Science of Sound" will wrap up the 2021 Arkansas Science Festival!

See you at Huntington Square this Saturday, October 23 between Noon and 3:00 p.m.

Musicians from the Delta Symphony Orchestra will present how they play their musical instrument and explain the science of sound production. Featuring a variety of instruments, audience members can enjoy the performance, participate in craft activities and a drum circle. Suitable for all ages. Brought to you by the Delta Symphony Orchestra, Arkansas Science Festival, and Huntington Square. Food available for purchase.
