Built in 1911 as a one-room schoolhouse for Jefferson City, the Community Center is offered for use by the Jefferson City Community Center Board (JCCCB), a subsidiary of the Jefferson City Volunteer Fire Department (JCVFD) which owns the building. Classes were held in the school until the final class graduated in 1952. The structure, which later served as the fire hall for 35 years, was developed into its present use by a group of local citizens who wanted to see the "school" preserved and utilized by the public. The building, which is handicap accessible, can be used by any individual or group for a donation which will be used to help maintain and improve the facilities. The JCCCB hopes the community will enjoy and use their new resource and will continue to help it serve Jefferson City and area residents. There is a "classroom" space (maximum occupancy of 80) with a limited number of tables and chairs available for use. The facility also has a kitchen, including stove, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher, as well as a handicap accessible restroom. Picnic tables are available for outdoor use upon request. The facility can be rented by the hour (2 hour minimum) or by the day. The donation rates are based on individual, for-profit and not-for-profit groups and range from $10-20 hourly and $75-125 daily. Jefferson County residents and senior citizens are offered discounts. Special rates are also available for recurring uses.
